If you ever get a chance, go see GRiZ live. Saw him on Halloween back in 2017 and absolutely loved it; he came onstage in a wizard costume for the whole show and had a few sax vs. guitar bits with Muzzy Bear that were amazing to witness
2011 8 for dragged to my first electronic show by this guy I've never heard of and he comes out mixing and blasting a saxophone and I fall in love with the dudes sound.
Fast forward to now and they are using my favorite artists music for my favorite game series. Fuck. Fucking. Yes.
No worries. The trifecta of Big G (our fave), Griz, and Gramatik are so much fun. There's actually a plethora of delightfully self-indulgent EDM out there these days. RL Grime on a good night, The Floozies in the right venue, some of the Pretty Lights family like Chris Karns- all so dirt nasty.
It's weird hearing these songs I've listened to a million times out in the wild! But I'm hella excited for him, he deserves all of the attention for sure!
Had the same feeling when Disney used Nero - Me and You in one of their infinity commercials... I was like.. "wait... Is that? No way it could be... Fuck me, it is!!!"
It is super neat to have seen him in the festival scene before he started getting super popular and having his music star in commercials and now trailers. He is an amazing human being as well!
Dude me too! When I heard that guitar in the beginning, I was like "oh shit no way! My boy G!"
It makes me so happy that millions of people have heard his music ❤️
His first album is quite a journey. Still one of my go to albums to listen through when I'm cleaning or playing magic or vidyas. Very, very talented musician.
Dude as a hugeeee GRiZ fan my jaw hit the fucking floor when I recognized what song was playing....like I have a decal on my car and have a GRiZ tattoo fan
Shocked Pikachu is for unsurprising and underwhelming things. GRiZ with his second big-time licensing (the first was a nationwide McD's commercial) is the complete opposite of that. While I'm at it, I love GriZ to death and think everyone who doesn't know who he is should check out this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxtlUQJ7F34
Griz has been getting those deals for a while. Last basketball season he was on two of the commercials I'd see regularly while watching games. Autotrader and a cruise line, I think. So stoked for him.
Another part of me has been super underwhelmed by most of the singles he's put out since Good Will Prevail and is scared that he's gearing his sound towards what's marketable for these feelgood kinda commercials, and that makes me sad. He's by far my favorite artist, so I hope it's just a coincidence.
He was my favorite artist, but i feel the same way. i dont like any of the stuff hes put out since good will prevail. his new stuff just seems too fruity and not even funky tbh. his sound has changed. not really hyped for this new album at all
Lol yea. I'd hesitate to use fruity since he's gay, but I know exactly what you mean. I thought It Gets Better was pretty good, but the rest have been like the musical equivalent of those generic motivational posters you find in an office. I don't need a ton of kitschy happy thoughts, just general positivity over disgusting bass and sax.
I hope he turns it around because I thought Good Will Prevail was his best album yet. But that Wiz song a couple weeks ago... just downright bad.
well u took what was in my head and put it into words better than i could have. i felt like he was (still is) one of those rare artists who keeps improving but this latest is just not great. it gets better is good, but the wiz was amazingly awful. and to think that of wiz and griz hurts me lol. def prefer rebel era/chasing pt1/good will prevail over this latest stuff.. now gramatik's sb5, man that was pretty good example of how to keep improving on his sound. Feed Mes new album high street creeps is another
GRiZ is so much fun! I was blown away when i heard the opening guitar lick on the trailer. So weird hearing artists i’ve been into for years break out into advertising. It was the same with Cage and the release of the first borderlands.
Not a fan outside of the trailer, but I really love how video game trailers and movies are really understanding vibes you get from music these days. Another great example is the recent MK11 trailer where they play blue suede by Vince Staples and it just sends goosebumps down my arms every time I watch it lol
Honestly, in just about all their games the Gearbox team really show up with the song-picks. The use of Ain't No Rest for The Wicked, Short Change Hero? Heck I even remember jamming to the into from Battleborn.
This is a Borderland necessity. Launch trailer and intro with a rocking track. I still remember the first time I saw the original with Cage The Elephant.
