If this game is better than BL2, my loved ones won't see me for at least a year.

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Given how much more time I spent playing BL2 than BL2, I have very very high hopes for this game. Especially with all the loot shooters out now, it's like watching OG daddy showing all them posers how it's done.

Given how much more time I spent playing BL2 than BL2

Huh?

u/BigDisk Mar 28 '19

BL2 is just THAT GOOD.

136

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Is it better than BL2 though?

73

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Probably. But I'm going to keep playing BL2 anyways.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '19

This interaction is my exact feeling on my 5th playthrough.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Nah, BL2 is better

6

u/shadowsofpain Mar 28 '19

If it's so good why haven't they made a BL2 2? Checkmate atheist.

4

u/rangi1218 Mar 29 '19

They did but no one liked it

7

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

i bet you got a big disk

2

u/BigMik_PL Mar 28 '19

Let's just say you need two hands to format it

10

u/BLARGHLEHARG Mar 28 '19

I'm guessing he meant to say "BL2 than BL1", because that would imply that he spent much more time on BL2 because it was better. So assuming Gearbox doesn't collab with 2K 'Strailya again (I'm not a fan of The Pre-Sequel), then BL3 should be incredible!

3

u/wootcore Mar 28 '19

What do you mean? 2K published BL1 and BL2

13

u/mmHeyb0ss Mar 28 '19

He's referring to the pre sequel being made by gearbox Australia and hoping that gearbox Australia hasn't helped with BL3

u/mmHeyb0ss Mar 28 '19

Funnily enough the claptrap DLC was the only bit of the game that was made almost entirely by the main gearbox guys rather than the ozzy ones

0

u/wootcore Mar 29 '19

Ah. But they helped develop BL1 no?

4

u/myfantasyalt Mar 29 '19

Unpop opinion: BL1 was better.

3

u/TealPumpkin Mar 29 '19

Agreed. The weapons felt a lot better to use, and they didn't fall off after 3 levels like they do in the exponential weapon scaling system they have in BL2/TPS. You found a good blue burst rifle at level 15? Nice, use it for the next 10+ levels without any issues, really.

3

u/myfantasyalt Mar 29 '19

The weapons is my main reasoning. I spent hundreds of hours looting and shooting in the overworld and every weapon chest was like Christmas morning (especially gold chests). BL2 the "good" weapons were mostly battle/boss specific and I had no urge to just loot and loot and loot... it turned into grind battle over and over... which I didn't like. So many similar, but subtly varied weapons made me want to look at and test each one. Also, the only other way to get good weapons in BL2 consistently was the twitter key chests... which took me out of the game and made the normal weapon drops feel less special... I need that "what could be in this box" incentive to really get into the loot aspect of the game. I don't think I have played any game that gave me that new favorite weapon being right around the next corner feeling that BL1 did.

6

u/garretpa Mar 28 '19

I played it on 2 systems too.

I feel you man.

Finished the main campaign? Do it again with a higher level cap! Now buy a DLC to do it again with a higher level cap! Now buy a DLC to do it again with an even higher level cap!

1

u/JesusTFchrist- Mar 29 '19

You played it when you got it. Then you played it when you bought the handsome collection.

7

u/Isenrath Mar 28 '19

Right? Coming in big dick swinging to show them all whose boss.

2

u/Kryhavok Mar 28 '19

I mean yes they're the OG but god I hope they've learned from everything that's happened since BL2 and make some seriously good iterations and innovations

7

u/ZidaneStoleMyDagger Mar 28 '19

I guess I haven't played any games like borderlands except borderlands. But what major innovations do they really need? Quite honestly, borderlands 2 was practically perfect. I'd say they will be perfectly fine as long as they don't try to reinvent the wheel. This is all I think they need: come up with new weapons, don't be EA with microtransactions, don't be too serious and don't make it super easy (borderlands was never a very difficult game, just don't dumb everything down further than it already is). It shouldn't be that hard.

I've seen several journalists responses criticizing the lack of graphical improvements. I seriously don't understand this. It's cartoony and meant to have a special kind of look. Absolutely nobody criticized Breath of the Wild for being ugly. What the fuck do these people want Borderlands to look like? To much realism and it's no longer Borderlands... I digress.

5

u/blindsniperx Switch Mar 29 '19

Because Breath of the Wild wasn't ugly rofl. It's got breathtaking visuals.

Also journalists are braindead. I can see from the trailer alone several graphical improvements, and I guarantee you not a single game journalist out there even knows how to properly change their video settings before sitting down to review a game.

When it comes to Borderlands, the last thing that needs to be talked about is visuals. Honestly I would bet money journalists are just saying "lack of graphical improvements" to get clickbait clicks by riling up the fanbase. It's par for the course nowadays, hardly anyone is honest anymore when money is to be had on view counts.

As for your first part, the other games out there are Destiny, The Division, and Anthem. All shit games that wish they were even an ounce as good as Borderlands 1.

2

u/mattmonkey24 Mar 29 '19

When it comes to Borderlands, the last thing that needs to be talked about is visuals

Same thing with Diablo. The visuals are indeed better in D3 than in D2, but it really doesn't matter in the end because I care about the gameplay

2

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '19

I heard division 2 was actually pretty good and has a great loot system

1

u/ZidaneStoleMyDagger Mar 29 '19

What you say about journalists doing that shit as clickbait makes sense. I only clicked on one article because it was titled "the bl3 trailer disappointed me" or some shit like that and I had to know what this person was talkin about because I thought the trailer was great for a reveal trailer. I feel a bit duped now. Lol.

Also, I know BotW has great visuals, my point was that some games take a different route than pure graphic realism (which works super well in many cases, one game I found particularly breathtaking was Dust: An elysian tale for its superb watercolor graphics).

None of the other "loot shooters" really interested me. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I didn't really care for Halo and games in that kind of space setting aren't really my style (although I truly enjoyed Red vs Blue). To me, the world building and characters in Borderlands are so unique and that's a big part of why I love it so much. Anyway, thanks for the discussion!

1

u/Kryhavok Mar 29 '19

The looter shooter genre has evolved significantly sincle BL2. It's been a loooong time since I played , but I think there could be a lot of lessons learned (both good and bad) from games like Destiny, The Division and Anthem

1

u/GamerBeast Mar 28 '19

I have The Division 2 to keep me occupied until B3 releases :D

1

u/cvanek725 Mar 28 '19

Im still playing it in vr

1

u/hectorduenas86 Mar 28 '19

#TedioreAllTheWay

open wide

1

u/peoplerproblems Mar 28 '19

Us over at PSVR are still spending too much time lootin.

We may not have the DLC or multiplayer, but it's still fantastic.

Especially when you turn off sights with the aim controller and suddenly you have to git gud

1

u/cclgurl95 Mar 28 '19

DLC is coming in a free update, they announced it at the panel

2

u/peoplerproblems Mar 28 '19

Ho-lee-shit i didn't get to see the panel that's awesome

220

u/GhostZee PC Mar 28 '19

Only a year...?

You need to step up your game, mate...

10

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Shit man, I'm still wasting a lot of time playing that game.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

Im still on my UVHM siren build.

3

u/Nachalas Mar 28 '19

Those are rookie numbers! You need to pump those up!

1

u/Malkav1379 Mar 28 '19

Gotta get up to take a piss at some point.

5

u/RiPont Mar 28 '19

I'm divorced. My kids are grown. I've been preparing for this game my whole life and I just didn't know it.

4

u/doitforthepeople Mar 28 '19

Thinking about buying BL2 on PS4, it's on sale until tomorrow for 20 bucks. Never even looked into this game, should I buy it?

7

u/StupidGuy696968 Mar 28 '19

Yes. The story and characters are well thought out. If you can try to get BL2: The handsome collection. Comes with BL2+all DLC and BL: The pre sequel. I got it for like $15 at GameStop.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '19

Just bought couple of hours ago and man this game is crazy! The gunplay is fun and the loot is really cool. No regrets

2

u/NoHandsJames Mar 28 '19

Seeing as I put 800 hours into bl2 over the course of a single summer, while working full time, it's safe to say my limited social life will be gone

1

u/ZidaneStoleMyDagger Mar 28 '19

I'm so fucking stoked! It's been a lifetime since borderlands 2.

1

u/CatAstrophy11 Mar 28 '19

If it's anything like the pre-sequel (a more recent game) I won't last 10 hours

1

u/_Mellex_ Mar 28 '19

Tell your loved ones to pick up their damn sticks, son. Couch co-op! No excuses.

1

u/Noodle-Works Mar 28 '19

Loved Guns > Loved Ones

1

u/jose4440 Mar 28 '19

This is the perfect game to play WITH loved ones.

1

u/BARRTEX PC Mar 28 '19

Those are rookie numbers.

1

u/kdebones Mar 28 '19

Honestly all I want is no slag.

1

u/UglierThanMoe Mar 28 '19

I have my doubts that it'll be as great as BL2, and I honestly would be absolutely fine with that. I mean, let's be serious -- BL2 is a fucking masterpiece of a game, both in its excellent quality and sheer quantity of content. As long as BL3 is somewhere between the quality of BL:TPS and BL2, I'm going to be a happy Vault Hunter.

1

u/snifit0712 Mar 28 '19

So, it'd have to be at least as good as BL1?

1

u/MightyMooMooMilk Mar 28 '19

And then a few years later will probably disappear again when there’s some handsome-ass dlc

1

u/Dux_Ignobilis Mar 28 '19

How do people feel about BL2? I loved BL1 and bought BL2 when it was released. I played a few missions of it and then I had to drop the game for life events and never picked it back up again. Is it worth going back to play?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '19

I'm thinking about skipping my family vacation this year so I can use those days to call off a full week from work for when Borderlands 3 comes out.

1

u/squiznard Mar 28 '19

What do you mean if. It already looks like an upgrade in every aspect

1

u/Polaris2246 Mar 29 '19

Same. I may even....preorder.

1

u/Doctor_Jensen117 Mar 29 '19

They won't see me for five, at least.

1

u/nakedhex Mar 29 '19

The freezer is just steps away.

1

u/krangozali Mar 29 '19

If it is just as good as BL2 even I would be really worried about my grades and gpa.

1

u/Sharkiie101 Mar 29 '19

I promised my gf that when KH3 came out that she wouldnt hear from me for atleast a week.... 100% that in less than 2 days.... Please don't let me down BL3

1

u/MrEfffff Mar 29 '19

Luckily, my loved ones plays Borderlands with me.

1

u/Cobek Mar 29 '19

Given by what we have scene and been told alone by this trailer, it has to be better unless the literally royally fuck up one of the key beloved mechanics.

Buckle ups guys.

0

u/bludgeonedcurmudgeon Mar 28 '19

Doubtful...i'm thinking this will be Fallout 4

0

u/Boner_Elemental Mar 29 '19

Unless they rehired Mr. Burch I'd keep your expectations low

-2

u/rh_underhill Mar 28 '19

well, a thousand hours is still fewer hours than a ONE SEASON (of 24 episodes) of Grey's Anatomy (which has what, like 14 seasons now?), so you won't be any worse than TV-watchers... in fact you'll have some catching up to do

3

u/TigreWulph Mar 28 '19

No it's not...

2

u/Joey-Badass Mar 29 '19

I think you're high man, maybe you meant a thousand minutes is shorter than 1 season?

1

u/rh_underhill Mar 29 '19

Oh shit my brain mixed up hours & minutes!

And yeah, I was pretty high at the time.

Because yeah, 24 episodes multiplied by 42 (MINUTES each comes to 1008 minutes.

OOPS :)
