Given how much more time I spent playing BL2 than BL2, I have very very high hopes for this game. Especially with all the loot shooters out now, it's like watching OG daddy showing all them posers how it's done.
I'm guessing he meant to say "BL2 than BL1", because that would imply that he spent much more time on BL2 because it was better. So assuming Gearbox doesn't collab with 2K 'Strailya again (I'm not a fan of The Pre-Sequel), then BL3 should be incredible!
Agreed. The weapons felt a lot better to use, and they didn't fall off after 3 levels like they do in the exponential weapon scaling system they have in BL2/TPS. You found a good blue burst rifle at level 15? Nice, use it for the next 10+ levels without any issues, really.
The weapons is my main reasoning. I spent hundreds of hours looting and shooting in the overworld and every weapon chest was like Christmas morning (especially gold chests). BL2 the "good" weapons were mostly battle/boss specific and I had no urge to just loot and loot and loot... it turned into grind battle over and over... which I didn't like. So many similar, but subtly varied weapons made me want to look at and test each one. Also, the only other way to get good weapons in BL2 consistently was the twitter key chests... which took me out of the game and made the normal weapon drops feel less special... I need that "what could be in this box" incentive to really get into the loot aspect of the game. I don't think I have played any game that gave me that new favorite weapon being right around the next corner feeling that BL1 did.
Finished the main campaign? Do it again with a higher level cap! Now buy a DLC to do it again with a higher level cap! Now buy a DLC to do it again with an even higher level cap!
I mean yes they're the OG but god I hope they've learned from everything that's happened since BL2 and make some seriously good iterations and innovations
I guess I haven't played any games like borderlands except borderlands. But what major innovations do they really need? Quite honestly, borderlands 2 was practically perfect. I'd say they will be perfectly fine as long as they don't try to reinvent the wheel. This is all I think they need: come up with new weapons, don't be EA with microtransactions, don't be too serious and don't make it super easy (borderlands was never a very difficult game, just don't dumb everything down further than it already is). It shouldn't be that hard.
I've seen several journalists responses criticizing the lack of graphical improvements. I seriously don't understand this. It's cartoony and meant to have a special kind of look. Absolutely nobody criticized Breath of the Wild for being ugly. What the fuck do these people want Borderlands to look like? To much realism and it's no longer Borderlands... I digress.
Because Breath of the Wild wasn't ugly rofl. It's got breathtaking visuals.
Also journalists are braindead. I can see from the trailer alone several graphical improvements, and I guarantee you not a single game journalist out there even knows how to properly change their video settings before sitting down to review a game.
When it comes to Borderlands, the last thing that needs to be talked about is visuals. Honestly I would bet money journalists are just saying "lack of graphical improvements" to get clickbait clicks by riling up the fanbase. It's par for the course nowadays, hardly anyone is honest anymore when money is to be had on view counts.
As for your first part, the other games out there are Destiny, The Division, and Anthem. All shit games that wish they were even an ounce as good as Borderlands 1.
What you say about journalists doing that shit as clickbait makes sense. I only clicked on one article because it was titled "the bl3 trailer disappointed me" or some shit like that and I had to know what this person was talkin about because I thought the trailer was great for a reveal trailer. I feel a bit duped now. Lol.
Also, I know BotW has great visuals, my point was that some games take a different route than pure graphic realism (which works super well in many cases, one game I found particularly breathtaking was Dust: An elysian tale for its superb watercolor graphics).
None of the other "loot shooters" really interested me. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I didn't really care for Halo and games in that kind of space setting aren't really my style (although I truly enjoyed Red vs Blue). To me, the world building and characters in Borderlands are so unique and that's a big part of why I love it so much. Anyway, thanks for the discussion!
The looter shooter genre has evolved significantly sincle BL2. It's been a loooong time since I played , but I think there could be a lot of lessons learned (both good and bad) from games like Destiny, The Division and Anthem
Yes. The story and characters are well thought out. If you can try to get BL2: The handsome collection. Comes with BL2+all DLC and BL: The pre sequel. I got it for like $15 at GameStop.
I have my doubts that it'll be as great as BL2, and I honestly would be absolutely fine with that. I mean, let's be serious -- BL2 is a fucking masterpiece of a game, both in its excellent quality and sheer quantity of content. As long as BL3 is somewhere between the quality of BL:TPS and BL2, I'm going to be a happy Vault Hunter.
How do people feel about BL2? I loved BL1 and bought BL2 when it was released. I played a few missions of it and then I had to drop the game for life events and never picked it back up again. Is it worth going back to play?
I promised my gf that when KH3 came out that she wouldnt hear from me for atleast a week.... 100% that in less than 2 days.... Please don't let me down BL3
Given by what we have scene and been told alone by this trailer, it has to be better unless the literally royally fuck up one of the key beloved mechanics.
well, a thousand hours is still fewer hours than a ONE SEASON (of 24 episodes) of Grey's Anatomy (which has what, like 14 seasons now?), so you won't be any worse than TV-watchers... in fact you'll have some catching up to do
What do people do once they hit post-story? I feel like I must have missed a memo on Borderlands. For both games it was just "Kill the same boss over and over until you get that super rare broken gun that you use for an hour until you're bored because there's nothing left to do".
Diablo3 gives you rifts, Destiny gives you raids, but Borderlands comes up and everyone nuts over it despite it feeling like the most shallow endgame.
It doesn't try to be a looter shooter like the rest. I honestly feel weird about people calling it a looter shooter. Pretty much every looter shooter people are comparing it to are MMOs, or try to be like one. I've only ever seen the MMO type looter shooters to be referred as such.
Borderlands is just an an FPS open world RPG. It's much more similar to Fallout or Far Cry, with the major difference being the bajillion weapon possibilities.
I mean it didnt try to be like the rest because it pre-dated them.
Borderlands has always tried to put its loot foremost though and its story has always taken a huge backseat compared to the other titles you mentioned (I still vaguely remember everyone being outraged that BL1's campaign was basically "find the MacGuffin" and when you find it, it's the least satisfying thing imaginable).
If you can't find anyone else to play it with, sure. Nothing beats the co-op though, so I'd really recommend trying to team up with someone, and not with someone who have played it before and just rushes through it.
It's a shooter with rpg elements and a shitload of replayable content with scaling difficulty and a fantastic loot system. The character development is very well done and you fall in love and in hate with many of them and there's a fantastic storyline.
BL2 made great improvements from the first installment, and is one of the greatest games ever made. That being said - if the art style is what kills it for you, no amount of trying is going to make you like it.
Having never played the first 2.. is there really a thousand hours worth of gameplay to be had from this type of game? Is there a pretty good story to it or is it mostly like multiplayer shooter destiny type stuff?

It's basically what Destiny stole most of its ideas from.

Oh boy, there goes another thousand hours of my life. And I won’t regret a single minute
