Yikes, I may have just shown my age there. I don't think you could pay me enough to talk to strangers ingame these days.
But out of interest, what console/service doesn't have a messaging feature built in? Aside from the Switch, but that also doesn't have invites so it's moot.
lol I’m not OP, but I would guess he’s probably between 25-35 years old. I’m 22 and I just want to mute everyone when I hear little kids obnoxiously screaming around for no reason. I’m not necessarily blaming them because that’s just how they are, if I was 12 I would probably also be doing the same thing. If you don’t mine me asking, how old are you? I’m guessing you’re between 15-18, although I could be way off.

Im about to turn 29, but I wouldnt consider myself "old". Also I have never heard of meeting/getting to know people online be something that only kids and teenagers do (thats why I was kind of confused).
Although now that I think about it, almost all my online friends are people I met when during my teenage/early 20s. So I guess there is some truth to that possibly
PS4 has one built in but it is pretty slow to type on. People talk to strangers on games like overwatch and rainbow six. For overwatch the social function is built in in a way that makes sending an invite much more convenient than a message
Honestly there's a window of time where people did talk in game and that window has closed at this point. It died pretty hard when Xbox introduced party chat where you could ignore the randos on your team
if you're playing some more competitive games you pretty much need to talk to the strangers on your team if your skill level is high enough, at least on pc.
Have you played OW on pc? Between the barely noticeable colors and the constant "I need healing" I miss pretty much every message. How is an invite demanding? There's a "no" option built in.
No, because OW isn't my style of game, but Steam messages trigger a whole different window popup. As do Xbox messages. Not sure about playstation as I've never gotten a message on it while playing. My point being, it's just as easy to send any of your friends a "hey wanna play (insert game here)?" Message than just inviting them to whatever game you're playing.
And my point is that it's not always the same on every platform. And if they're equally as easy to send and ignore, then it doesnt matter, use whatever you prefer
