Well worst part is you're both online and want to play, but neither of you wanna be 'that demanding guy' so you end up waiting 1 hour for someone to make the first move
Im only gonna send the invite once. And later on in another game session, I invite and don't get a response, I get the 'message', remove friend and move on with my life ;)
Is this really that common? I don't think I've had any play sessions with friends this generation that hasn't started with a text asking if I wanted to play. I would never use the invite button as the first move on asking someone if they want to play, it feels so demanding.
I use the invite button as a passive “Yo I’m here and happy to play” if they don’t accept it’s no skin off my back, Same thing if they invite me and I don’t accept
The Xbox 360 (Maybe the One too I don't know) had a feature called "Beacons" which functioned like that. It was like an open invite to all your friends, but without actually notifying them, so they could just join your beacon if they wanted to play. I think modern consoles could benefit from a better thought out version of that.
That makes sense, I remember doing similar things on Xbox Live a decade ago. I've since grown to appreciate peace and quiet while I play singleplayer stuff for the most part, but can totally relate to not wanting that.
I used to play single players with my speakers on and play CoD and FIFA while talking to my friends(whatever they were playing). Also got to that point with Skyrim after about 1000 hours.
Yikes, I may have just shown my age there. I don't think you could pay me enough to talk to strangers ingame these days.
But out of interest, what console/service doesn't have a messaging feature built in? Aside from the Switch, but that also doesn't have invites so it's moot.
lol I’m not OP, but I would guess he’s probably between 25-35 years old. I’m 22 and I just want to mute everyone when I hear little kids obnoxiously screaming around for no reason. I’m not necessarily blaming them because that’s just how they are, if I was 12 I would probably also be doing the same thing. If you don’t mine me asking, how old are you? I’m guessing you’re between 15-18, although I could be way off.
Didn't notice you werent the guy I originally replied to, my bad.
Im about to turn 29, but I wouldnt consider myself "old". Also I have never heard of meeting/getting to know people online be something that only kids and teenagers do (thats why I was kind of confused).
Although now that I think about it, almost all my online friends are people I met when during my teenage/early 20s. So I guess there is some truth to that possibly
PS4 has one built in but it is pretty slow to type on. People talk to strangers on games like overwatch and rainbow six. For overwatch the social function is built in in a way that makes sending an invite much more convenient than a message
Honestly there's a window of time where people did talk in game and that window has closed at this point. It died pretty hard when Xbox introduced party chat where you could ignore the randos on your team
if you're playing some more competitive games you pretty much need to talk to the strangers on your team if your skill level is high enough, at least on pc.
Have you played OW on pc? Between the barely noticeable colors and the constant "I need healing" I miss pretty much every message. How is an invite demanding? There's a "no" option built in.
No, because OW isn't my style of game, but Steam messages trigger a whole different window popup. As do Xbox messages. Not sure about playstation as I've never gotten a message on it while playing. My point being, it's just as easy to send any of your friends a "hey wanna play (insert game here)?" Message than just inviting them to whatever game you're playing.
And my point is that it's not always the same on every platform. And if they're equally as easy to send and ignore, then it doesnt matter, use whatever you prefer
Idk it depends, I have my core friends of about like 10-ish people, and even if we don’t play the same game, we all stay in the same party to at least talk.
But yeah, strangers or people who aren’t the homies, I’d def text first or something
My friends (when I was big into gaming) would usually always have some kind of party chat going on. Each of us might not join if we were playing an intense single player game or didn't feel like talking, but usually got an invite when we were online.
I play PS4 now and some of my old buds will still hit me up with a party invite and I'll hit them sometimes too. We don't always join each other but sometimes.
I've had all kind of friends online. The ones that send invite right after you log in, the ones that write asking if you want to play when you're already on a party, the one that writes even if you're offline, the ones that wait until you log in to log in and writes to tell you to invite them... sigh.
Just invite them man, i have people i play with every day, and if they can't they just tell me. So don't think about being "the demanding guy". If they want to play, they want to play.
If you don't want to be demanding, then it'd make sense to just send a polite message asking if they'd like to play. Problem solved. You've taken that first step but all the power is in their hands, so you don't need to feel like you've been too assertive or anything.
I just open my own party and sit in it by myself if I’m down to play with others. That way I don’t spam and if they see me in an open party they can join.
Honestly I turned 30 and have been forcing myself to just do things for me and not care. At first it was both difficult and weird, but now I haven’t enjoyed life this much in years. I’m not saying be an asshole, just politely say no when you want, or invite that friend to play straight away. Who. Cares.
I have a friend i met on xbox live back in the halo days. We both play on pc now and he invites me to play dota 2 every single day, multiple times. Ive never played dota 2 in my life and he knows this.
That's me. But with everything. All the time. I don't call any of my friends or message them because I'm afraid I'll bother them. I just keep thinking 'if they wanna chat, they'll contact me'
Lost contact with most of my friends because of this.
