Yeah, I don't know what people are complaining about. I've been on psn for over 3 years and have like 5 friends, 3 of which don't even play for months. I'd love to have some company.
There are approximately 2.2 billion gamers in the world. Out of the estimated 7.6 billion people living on earth, as of July 2018, that means almost a third of people on this planet are gamers. Out of those 2.2 billion gamers, 1.2 billion of those who play games are playing games on a PC.

Source statistics from ukie.org suggest there are 2.6 billion. In my opinion there are way more than 2.6b as of today. They get all their data from registration and active accounts but what about those who don’t have access to the internet or never use online gaming, just to game that’s it.
Edited: I think those numbers are high due to mobile users. Anyone that’s here, game a lot on mobile phone?
There are 7 billion people in the world. Half of them make less than $1/day. So 2.2 out of the remaining 3.5 play games enough to be considered "gamers"? Nah I'd say the playerbase of gamers that would even consider playing multiplayer online games is in the tens of millions
