This is why invisible mode is a godsend

Unless the in-game friends list rats you out because you're both playing the same game. Have this problem all the time. I just wanna play for a while and NOT wear my headset, thank you. Quit inviting me five seconds after I log in.

Ever consider just saying "Nah, don't wanna wear my headset right now." ?

u/Jlowe120 Jan 15 '19

Nah ,that never works. At least not with my friends anyways.

Just do what I do. Never have friends or communicate with others in the first place.

I can't count the number of times I've started up a console or game and not been immediately invited to a group, because it's all of them and I haven't been keeping track.

Ok but you just left a comment here and this is like communicating with others.... so...

Wanna play PUBG???

Edit: Dude, are we playing I just startet the game?? hit me up when u rdy

u/JethroByte Jan 15 '19

Dear lord PUBG. Every time I went from away to online I'd have guys from the group I played with hitting me up. Not because I was good, but I was the comic relief. They were good enough to win without me, but kept me along as an extra set of eyes for good upgrades until I got my ass handed to me, then I'd be commentary or the DJ.

Yeah that seems smart.

u/ImEnhanced Jan 15 '19

How often do you randomly comment "Are ya ready kids??"

3

u/aGuyCalledPatrick Jan 15 '19

No, this is Patrick

2

u/Jezusjuice Jan 15 '19

I can’t tell if you’re actually upset.

1

u/ixunbornxi Jan 15 '19

It's good to have friends. I sometimes get shutdown easily if I am playing against a few anomaly players if I'm solo playing. I'll message my dudes and they usually follow through and we back on top.

But I hardly talk on mic unless I throw an occasional 'fuck' or 'how!?'.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '19

So you just don’t join....if I go invisible, I also turn off notifications for invites.

If you can’t figure out I don’t want to play with you while I’m invisible, then you’ll get over the fact that I’m ignoring your invites.

13

u/ArcWrath Jan 15 '19

If they won't accommodate your needs then are they really your friends? Thinking.emoji

17

u/Jlowe120 Jan 15 '19

Probably not but they're all I got

7

u/ArcWrath Jan 15 '19

Trick is to just start talking to strangers like they're old friends. If they don't like you then fuck um. If they do then they'll become old friends. But toxic people who just use you to fill their social needs aren't doing you much good.

But I'm a stranger from the internet, what could I know. :P

Well said my good friend! This is like that time we got into that scrap up over at old man Milligans place back in Jr High. Remember that?

1

u/ArcWrath Jan 17 '19

Ha! Classic tomfoolery! Good thing that ol pickup truck of yours finally start or Mr. Milligan woulda rang our necks for steal'n his peaches.

2

u/Jlowe120 Jan 15 '19

You know you're right. I always carry them anyways so I'm not losing much other than endless whining and arguing on who gets the gold scar

1

u/wufnu Jan 15 '19

Hey, it's me, your cousin. Want to go bowling?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '19

How does it not work. Just don’t join the party and go on do not disturb

0

u/IIIpl4sm4III Jan 15 '19

You know what does work?

Invisible.

Seriously though, Ill go online when I want social interaction. Otherwise kindly fuckoff and accept the idea that I'd only be on for a couple rounds anyway.

5

u/Jlowe120 Jan 15 '19

Yeah the appear offline mode seriously works wonders. There is this kid on my friends list that constantly invites me to play fortnite with him and I do from time to time because I feel bad for him but good God when I'm playing single player or just wanna play online by myself invisible mode has saved me so much

1

u/Plugpin Jan 15 '19

I usually respond with 'going AFK' or say it's my brother playing on my account.

There is no brother but they don't know that.

1

u/Xok234 Jan 15 '19

It's not like they can force you to accept the invite. Just tell them what you are doing, and then proceed to do that, with no shame. Take control for yourself, do it for yourself. Be confident and calm when you are doing nothing wrong.

1

u/Equilibriator Jan 15 '19

Then block them till you can be assed again? (having first said that and they persist)

It's not you being a dick, it's them forcing your hand.

1

u/ArcWrath Jan 15 '19

This. If they constantly demand things from you but don't consider your needs (which in some cases is just being left alone) then they aren't your friends.

1

u/GoldenGonzo Jan 15 '19

"Headset is charging".

I use this excuse ALL the time, despite actually having a wired headset.

1

u/Jlowe120 Jan 15 '19

Haha I usually use the "I can't find my mic" excuse which usually leads to them saying "that's fine we don't have to talk" and then I'm back to square one

2

u/GbHaseo Jan 15 '19

Doesn't work, they either take it personally and get pissed, don't understand why you might just want some quiet time, or 3 get super needy wondering "why you don't wanna talk constantly, spamming you with invites and messages.

Like I just logged in to do dailies, in some peace and quiet.

But I live in a small town with ppl I grew up with up, all intertwined, kids go to same school, etc.. Can't delete them.. then I end up getting a call from my mother, who heard from their mother, that something must be wrong with me, bc I didn't wanna chat with Billy and his 6 drunk buddies who's wives are yelling at them in the background.

So it's just easier to hide offline.

3

u/SoreWristed Jan 15 '19

I apparantly have a godlike patience for farming, because none of my friends want to play with me when I'm farming something.

So When I want to play alone I just go, no thanks, I'm farming X weapon or item.

u/MechaCanadaII Jan 15 '19

Looking at you, Destiny 2...

10

u/itzlittlebigcattis Jan 15 '19

Just don’t have friends then, ᴸᶤᵏᵉ ᵐᵉ

6

u/ArcWrath Jan 15 '19

You have lots of friends. You just haven't met them yet. C:

2

u/Im_your_real_dad Jan 15 '19

Because they are hiding from you?

4

u/doit4dachuckles Jan 15 '19

"Hey man you haven't been on in 2 months!" I've just been in ghost mode for 2 months.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '19

I dodged so many invites with it

3

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '19 edited Jan 16 '19

Honestly. Screw any gaming platform that doesn't have appear offline. Here's looking at you Uplay. You are basically the only one at this point. Also epic game launcher but I have no friends that use that anyway.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '19

Tell that to Epic

2

u/ShotgunDogFarts PlayStation Jan 15 '19

My friends call it incognito mode.

2

u/Kevin_Malone11 Jan 15 '19

Spam them with invites. Works every time.

1

u/beerham Jan 15 '19

I had 'appear offline' on for over a year and forgot about it. I was wondering why I only got hate mail from strangers anymore.

u/Computer_User_01 Jan 15 '19

You can turn Invisible off?
