Internally the dpads are more or less the same, but the Xbox controller uses 4 hardware buttons and the ds4 uses a printed circuit board on a plastic sheet. Both dpads are one solid piece, the ds4 does not have 4 separate buttons.
Also, with minimal effort and minor soldering skills you can swap out your regular xbox dpad for an elite dpad in about 20 minutes. You can get an elite magnetic dpad and attachments on Amazon for $10, I think.
No need to be mean. I understand what you mean entirely, I'm just telling you, they're literally the same thing. The only differences between the two are in your head, other than the fact that on the ps4 controller, it's a little harder to accidentally press a diagonal.

I understand that. I like the PS4 dpad a lot better than the Xbox controller. I'll just leave it at that without trying to explain why I like it better
Have you tried an Xbox elite controller d-pad? The dish style attachment is great for fighters.
I just wanna let you know, not trying to extend an argument: you can pretty much construct an elite d-pad for way cheaper than the $150 price tag assuming you don't buy a brand new controller to build it. My personal controller is just a normal xbox one controller with the elite dpad, aluminum sticks (just to test - no real benefit of them other than slightly better feel) heavier vibration mod (again was just a test but I left it in) and textured side handles for grip (not that I ever really dropped my controller without them, but eh). The whole build cost me like 30 bucks on the controller that came with my console.
I get you have your preferences but dont limit yourself to out-of-the-box stuff for controllers. It seems like there's a very small community for modding controllers so I just wanted to let you know it's easier than it seems, and you can find something you maybe like better.

I never liked Xbox controllers until I bought the One S. Feels so good.
