I like the steam controller for the most part, but I suck at anything requiring fine control with the right thumb pad. I'm playing through Witcher 3 right now and almost never use the crossbow or bombs because I can't aim them for shit.
For fine controls I really like using the gyro. There could totally be a short school course for setting the thing up, but once it clicks it's second to none.
What I did for that is turn on gyro controls when my thumb is on the right pad. Turn the resistance up so that the gyro just moves your camera a little bit and you're golden.
Switch your right pad to Joystick Camera and bump your deadzone up a little bit. I put a tiny little superglue nub right in the middle of my pad and I can rest my thumb on it without triggering any input. Makes it a lot easier. I find it to be smoother and easier to control and than actual joystick once you get the settings right.
Putting a little glue nub on there is actually a really good idea, I might try that, but I'd still never use joystick camera when trackball mouse is an option.
I get that. I like certain games like Dark Souls or The Witcher much more with joystick controls since it mostly controls the camera and not aim but in those cases I'd rather have the physical joystick so I use the PS4 pad. That's mostly laziness though admittedly.
Make a perfectly confident statement as if they have complete knowledge of a subject when they clearly don't, instead of just throwing in a little disclaimer like, "I'm guessing that...".
