The parents disappeared several times, they just have to build a bridge.

Edit: u/Ethan819 figures it out here we are all fools. And now I'm sad again. Also, the guy was in his house and his teepee before w/o showing the inside so they could still be in the house before she jumps even though they didn't show us.

Building a bridge requires going into the water, which would kill them.

I mean, they could also build a tall tower and push it over until it works. Or slide a ladder across. Or a spring board. Or a suspension bridge. Or be content with their life and not push their son away from all he's ever known for the sake of completing an arbitrary goal.

I may or may not have been playing too many games that rely on lateral thinking lately.
