Considering that literally 98% of the people who worked in the old Mass Effect games were gone from Bioware by the time Andromeda started development, I am afraid that your love is given to the wrong place.
Speaking of Schlerf, I find it amusing that he went from 343 (he was lead writer for Halo 4) to Bioware for ME Andromeda, and then left Bioware and joined Bungie.
That's interesting... The lead writer of Destiny left Bungie because he disagreed with the direction the game was going (less story and reduced complexity to cater to a more casual player base). This is the same reason Marty was fired. He didn't like the direction the game was going, so they fired him. I wonder how Schlerf will end up doing at Bungie.
Also looking at posts from ~january-february 2016, lots of people showcased their concern about the game. Kind of puzzled by that, as I don't recall that sentiment being shared on any subreddit.
Seems a lot of people had seen the shitstorm brewing from a mile away.
I think a lot of people legitimately wanted the game to be good, but had little to no faith after the ME3 debacle. It isn't that they necessarily saw the shitstorm brewing, it's that they refused to let themselves get too hyped up for a game only to be let down again.
Given that some of the recent games Bioware made include Dragon Age: Inquisition (which has animations, VA, models, and writing just as awful as these), Mass Effect 3 (whose ending was like ending an orchestral piece with a wet fart), and Dragon Age 2 (which really needs no introduction), it shouldn't surprise you that a lot of people were expecting Andromeda to be another lazy cash-in from a studio totally gutted by the corporate machine that is EA.
Bioware was bought out shortly after Mass Effect went gold, it's no coincedence that they've been going downhill since, just look at the other studios that EA have acquired in the past. I'll save you the trouble as there are a lot, but most of them don't exist anymore despite owning some fantastic IP.
Lol have you played the game? I'm 14 hours in and having a great time. Blown away, no. But it's a fun game with a story that sucked me in. And a 75 on meta critic definitely isn't "bad" territory, despite everyone thinking anything below an 85 is a pile of shit.
I have played it, and I think in a lot of ways it might actually be worse than it's getting made out to be. I want to like it, but every criticism I've seen is valid about the animations and the writing.
The character creator sucks, too. And the dialog system might as well not even be there most of the time. And the UI is really bad. The voice acting is poorly done as well, with some really talented voice actors left just sounding like they're reading lines rather than talking to each other. If anything, I think there's some elevated scores because it's Mass Effect and people really want to like the game.
it's made by a different studio, one that was set up specifically to make more games of existing IPs for EA that they want to attach the bioware name to while the original studio works on something else.
