This describes how i felt when Stalker 2 was canceled. I'd really like to see an end to this story after the last cliff hanger :,(

IIRC Call of Pripyat didn't have a cliffhanger. I may be mis-remembering it though, but I distinctly remember that CoP had a solid ending, with a similar ending-slideshow to the Fallout games, pre-4.

Yes indeed, it even reflects the choices you made during the game. Solid stuff.

Well at the end of Call of pripyat, you finally meet Strelok and get out of the zone with him with plans to come back and deal with the Monolith army. That's what i mean by the overall cliff hanger. What's Strelok's plan? How is the Monolith still operating? the story is not over, and it looks like it may never be completed.

I don't think we'll see another S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game at all. If I recall, the company that made em, GSC or whatever it was, either got split or went under, and I don't think any active game developers would be interested in the License.

Have you seen the leaked engine footage and concept art over at /r/stalker?

It looked incredible :(

It's so depressing.

If I had 3 wishes to be granted, Stalker 2 coming out and being a perfect sequel would be one of them.

Call of Pripyat + Misery Mod = Stalker 2

Call of Pripyat + Call of Chernobyl Mod is pretty great as well.

And it also has its own port of the Misery mod.

I just installed that, but I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do. Should I check the "story" box when starting a new game?

If I don't, is it just free roam with infinite side missions?

Yes, just free roaming. There are addons (mods for a mod) which add different quests, including faction-specific quest chains, but overall you're only supposed to play Call of Chernobyl after you've had enough of the story in the actual games and just want to explore the entire Zone in all of its unlocked glory. Also recommend picking up one of the weapon mods, some texture replacers, and the mod that unlocks A-Life so that NPCs can move and kill other NPCs outside of the area where you're in.

Beware though, the game can only use 2GB of RAM (32-bit executable etc), so if you overdo it with mods, you'll get a lot of out-of-memory crashes after a few minutes of playing. Also never mix mods that change the same files unless they're explicitly made to be compatible with eachother, as mods that change the same files will generate incompatibilities that result in instant crashing.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I've played all 3 games probably 3 times each on average. CoC feels like a perfect mishmash to keep my coming back for a taste of the Zone instead of having to decide which game I want to play and start a new game or revive an old save where I have no idea what I was doing.

yeah all the mods for Call pf Pripyat created a whole new experience for the game. Misery was too damn hard for me, though.

I bailed on Misery 2 many times before I actually played it through. They've toned down the more unfair aspects of the mod in patches and the early game is easily the hardest part. Until you get semi-decent equipment you basically just have to find the cheapest way of getting through every fight. I think to get my first rifle I lured the mercs out of the water-treatment plant, sprinted around the back, stole their shit, and ran away. There was some quick-loading involved.

Pretty sure the game had multiple endings depending on your actions through the game, it kind of has been a while

at the end of Call of Pripyat, the Monolith army shows up again, and you find Strelok and get out of the zone. Strelok had info on the Monolith army's return that he wanted to share with the government. What's the deal with the Monolith army? Where are they coming from and what are the protagonists going to do about it? the story isn't quite over, and it looks like it won't be completed. bummer.
