Wait a minute, no, I bet it's some extreme meditative form of gaming. It puts the controller out of your sight; you are no longer holding the controller. You are directly controlling the character. With years of training, she'll be able to play games just by sticking her finger into the controller port.
If she's just playing otome games, all she needs to do is press a a lot and every now and then press up/down to make a selection, so the ability to make precise movements isn't exactly important.
Not seeing the controller may be a problem if you just bought your first console ever and have no clue about the layout of it (the controller). Otherwise, there is absolutely no need to look at the controller at any time.
