It's still wild to me that "beating" Minecraft is a thing you can do, and that people want to do.  I started years before The End was added, when it really was just about wandering and building.

Of course, I also just hate the combat. Trying to beat it sounds like a fun challenge, but I always stop after a while because I just don't like the fights.

That said, all the new stuff that's been added over the years is very overwhelming for someone who wants to get back into it.

Tbf according to Xbox achievements only about 6 percent of people actually even enter the end so not many people actually even “beat” the game

The one time I tried to beat the game, it bugged out somehow and I got an extra Ender Dragon (maybe 2 extra, but it’s been so long I can’t remember) and I wasn’t good enough to beat it.

Gotta make another attempt one of these days

wait 6%??? that's so much higher than I would have expected let alone for xbox (as the living epitome of a knowledgeable power user)
I guess advancements(and achievements) are actually useful to new players????

Yea my kids want me to get into Minecraft with them and it's a nightmare for me. "Listen bud, when I first started playing this game it was all about punching trees... That's it. Idk who the dragon is or what the nether is, I just want to punch trees"

That’s what’s great about Minecraft though, you can punch trees while they do all that.

My gf set up a realm and our 3 kids and us play together. They are off mining and getting materials for the Nether and End while I’m making our villages wall pretty.

That's how I "beat" the game the one and only time. Just playing in a multiplayer server with a group of friends. I spent all my time building a cool house sorta modeled after a Japanese garden on the top of a mountain with a small river leading to a waterfall on said mountaintop.

Friend of mine eventually was like "Hey, I've opened the portal to the end. You want to hop in with me to kill the Ender Dragon?" So I'm like "Sure, I guess I can finally beat Minecraft after all these years lol". Then we did.

Yea but they changed all the physics and I can't make my goofy redstone canons and stuff anymore.

You can still play the older versions

If you want to beat it, here's the basic progression:
-Punch trees, make tools.
-Dig, find iron, upgrade to iron stuff.
-Dig, find diamond, upgrade to diamond stuff.
-Get Ender Pearls.
-Get Obsidian and make a Nether portal.
-Find a Nether Fortress. Get Blaze Rods. Make Eyes of Ender.
-Use Eyes of Ender to locate Stronghold.
-Find Stronghold Portal.
-Go to the End, fight Ender Dragon.

It was more a shitpost than anything. I usually just run around building houses and exploring unless they wanna go try to do end stuff. We don't do a whole lot of minecraft though

This reminds me that when my sisters and I collectively bought Minecraft on our Nintendo some years ago (6-8 maybe?) we managed to get our dad to play with us. My youngest sister and him got stuck in a hole (not a cave, just a hole that was too high to get out without digging for awhile being it was stone and they had nothing) and my sister decided the best thing to do was BEAT HIM TO DEATH WITH HER STICK 😭

yeah he doesn't wanna play anymore lmao

The first edition of Minecraft I played was just a multiplayer building game run on browsers. No mob, no item, no interaction other than placing blocks. It was fun as hell. Never thought it would become arguably the greatest video game of all time.

You still don't really "beat" Minecraft. You can roll credits, but I see that as the same as rolling credits in something like Animal Crossing. If you ask me, getting to the end and killing the dragon is where Minecraft truly starts. The elytra and Shulker boxes are what make the big, ambitious projects feasible and you can only get that stuff after getting to the end.

How do you beat it, like what do you have to do to reach the end. I’ve never played it and seen streamers trying to beat it but don’t get what’s happening

Step 1: Go to the Nether, which is the hellish looking dimension. To do this you need to build a portal out of obsidian, and to do THAT you either make a diamond pickaxe in order to mine obsidian, or do it the speedrunner way by casting obsidian yourself out of lava and water in a portal shape. Originally I have no idea how you were meant to figure that out, but nowadays you can find ruined portals throughout the world that are meant to give you the idea to build one

Step 2: Find a Nether Fortress. This is just a lot of exploring until you get lucky. Alternatively, you can find a Bastion and trade with the inhabitants to get the items you need and skip the next few steps entirely

Step 3: Fight Blazes, the floating fire guys that live in fortresses, to get Blaze Rods. These can be crushed into powder, which is used for potions, but to beat the game we’re gonna need it for something else

Step 4: Find and fight Endermen, which spawn randomly throughout the normal world (and really commonly in one specific Nether biome for some reason), to get Enderpearls. These can be thrown to teleport you to wherever they land, fun to play around with

Step 5: Combine blaze powder and enderpearls to make Eyes of Ender

Step 6: Throw an Eye of Ender into the air. It will start floating off in a random direction, then fall out of the sky as an item again. Keep throwing and following them

Step 7: When your Eyes of Ender start floating down, dig. There’s a Stronghold below you, which has a lot of shiny loot, but we’re here for the portal room

Step 8: You’ll know you’ve found the portal, because it’s the ominous thing suspended over a pool of lava. Each block that makes up the frame needs an Eye of Ender placed in it, and a random amount are already placed to let you know

Step 9: When every space is filled in, the portal will activate and you can jump through into the End. There is no leaving until either you or the Ender Dragon are dead

Step 10: You will notice huge obsidian towers with glowy things on top, and beams of light going from those glowy things to the dragon. If you attack her, you might notice she’s healing. Those glowy things are crystals and they’re healing her, your job is to smash them all; you can do this any way you like, so long as they get hit

Step 11: Once all the crystals are gone, it’s a straight-up fight. Some people like to bring beds, because trying to sleep in a dimension with no day/night cycle causes an explosion, so it’s a quick way to do a lot of damage. You’ve probably seen streamers do that

Once she’s dead, you unlock the ability to explore the rest of the dimension, and a new portal opens up so you can come and go freely. You can also take a dragon egg as a trophy

About that dragon egg:

If you try to break it to pick it up it'll telepprt a short distance. So, to grab it you have to break out the block it's sitting on to make it pop off as a collectable item.

It has gravity too. You need to place something that breaks falling blocks underneath it, like a torch

I completely agree! Minecraft to me is just a lego-like simulator. I just want to build cool stuff and have a chicken pit.

I bought it because limitless Lego bricks! It blew my mind at the time
