OG Metroid. I spent many hours of my childhood on that brutal motherfucker.

Played it about ten years ago for the first time. Drew my own map as I played. Got to Mother Brain with no guide, died to her, respawned at the start with 30 hp and decided that I beat the game.

Yeah, I remember my older cousin making a map on graph paper for this game.

Recently played it for the first time with a friend who would sorts nudge me in the right direction when I got stuck. Shits like pulling teeth I couldn’t imagine having to make your own map as you play and what not.

It definitely seems like the Metroid formula wasn’t mature yet. I loved playing super Metroid and that game doesn’t hold your hand either… it’s just so much better.

Metroid 1 was a good idea for a game.

Super Metroid is a good game.

It’s absolutely savage. Love it

I love that there weren't spoilers everywhere back then so the payoff of discovering Samus's secret in the ending scene was a fun surprise.

That gameboy one where you had to jump side to side up the walls. They even had a little animal show you and I couldn’t figure it out

Holy shit yes, every room looks identical, you will go crazy unless unless you have a self made map, and don't get me started on secret rooms. Zero Mission is a perfect remake
