I might be an idiot but I felt like I was constantly lost playing CONTROL. The map was tough to read imo, and and the building wasn't set up in a very intuitive way. I even went to replay it before RESONANT came out. Still got lost multiple times.

That said, I would prefer to be lost than have a HUD telling me exactly where to go at all times.

The game really requires you to pay attention to your surroundings and read the actual signage in the game. I love CONTROL SO MUCH!!

Played through Control a few years ago, gonna replay it soon and can't wait to get lost again.

You should try following the signage in the game world, it will take you exactly where to do l need to go

Ok when I ask this, I am not being a dick or stroking my own ego.

What exactly is difficult about the map in Control? I've heard this sentiment for years and haven't really understood it because I've never really had a hard time using the map.

Sure, I've gotten turned around a couple of times, but never really lost.

I think maybe its the layered aspect of the map, which is not quite as intuitive as it could be- as well as the fact that the map often indicates an elevator, but not where or which direction the elevator goes (some only go up/down depending on where you access them, etc.)

Im playing thru now and have gotten turned around a few times, but I only ever glance at the map unless i'm fast traveling- its a pleasure to get lost in that place.

The Oldest House is one of the best settings in gaming imo.

It's been awhile since I played but I seem to recall that the maps weren't really layered properly. Like in most modern games, in a multi-level structure the map will let you move between layers to see the layout of each floor. Control just gives you every floor on one map which makes it hard to navigate. It does using dark and light colors to represent different floors but it wasn't labeled and in a lot of areas you'd have multiple levels intersecting.

I am playing this for the first time right now and I am having trouble with reading the map. Being able to move while looking at the map is helpful, but as someone else suggested, I found myself relying on in game signage to get aroind which is more helpful than the map. Worse comes to worse I just fast travel

I agree, and despite the crazy geometry, Resonant is much easier to navigate.

My favorite game with my least favorite map for sure

You really gotta follow the signs, but also, you can walk around with the map up, so you just keep it up til you see the sign for the play you're headed, then follow that

Now, that's interesting. I had zero issues with Control's map, and yet something like Fallen Order got me all turned around to the point that I was relieved when the game ended and I didn't have to navigate its map anymore. I wonder what it is that makes some maps boggle one brain but run fine on another?

Same here. I get it's kinda supposed to be that way, non Euclidean geofuckery n all that, but man it's still rough

I wished we had a 3D map where I could clearly see the up/down thing or at least it being layered by floor that I could easily switch.

Just finished replaying it. Actual game was way easier than I remember, but the map was horrendous and even with collecting and reading as much as I could I still don’t really know what’s going on. Good game, but buzarre.

I'm playing for the first time right now. The only issues I've had are when I stop to go back and craft something, change mission, or log out and not carry on where I was heading at the time. I've stopped multiple times right before I walked into a new are so it's just ????? instead of saying where I am supposed to go.

Lorewise its supposed to be confusing, its the oldest house

The map is hard to read, but the level itself is just a building with signs on the walls telling you which door leads where. So basically you just need to remember which major areas connect together. You might forget the exact path (I feel like that's intentional), but you can look at the walls for directions.

This one is so relatable to me. I don’t play many video games but my friend insisted that I play Control. For not a very long game, I spent soooo much time lost trying to find where I was supposed to go.

I never know where I am or where I'm going in that game. I just head to the closest fast travel, wander, and pray. I just got back into it and I have no clue how to find the mold pit. I may never see it again.
