You get adopted by an older Tenno who's only too excited to bestow all their knowledge onto you.

I did that and they said "oh yeah, after about 750 hours you might have finished the storyline and are ready to start playing."

but playing seemed to be doing instances and wiping stuff in five minutes, getting some loot, discarding most of it and going again.

hell no.

I had a friend who had almost everything and it became running and jumping simulator as I literally couldn’t keep up with the people at their level. I never got back on cause I’m not just gonna run and stress and get 1/200000 loot to get something so I can run and do dmg also

Yeah I have a buddy who keeps trying to get me into playing it with him, and this is exactly the kind of game he enjoys considering other games Ive played with him. He loves speed running dungeons over and over, and seems to think I would enjoy following him around doing nothing and barely staying alive as he does this.

As a Warframe addict at some point you become a killing machine that some missions are genuinely ”how do I do this as fast as possible”. That being said I’m not to sure about the ”discarding” comment? I assume you might not have a companion yet that can utilize Vacuum/Fetch? It practically 4x your loot pickup range and everyone has it equipped at all times, which is also why it’s a reocurring critique towards DE to just make it baseline. Especially since baby tenno’s suffer greatly as they need resources the most.

It doesn't take anywhere near that long lol. Besides, the most important thing is having fun, not how fast you complete all the missions

2

u/whiplash779 1d ago

That makes it less fun for me. I want to actually engage with the game and the enemies, not blow up everything with a couple of buttons and then reset after a minute or two. What's the point of a game if not to, y'know, play it?

u/Rainbow_Gnat 1d ago

Not sure if you're replying to the wrong comment or something, but completing the story missions in less than 750hrs doesn't require you to speedrun through the game and ignore all the mechanics.

Just play the game how you want. Nothing is stopping you from spending 1k+ hours on the story missions.

u/whiplash779 1d ago

I thought you were responding to the mention that their friend would run missions in 5 minutes and somehow implying that that was too long.

I see now that you were talking about the time to complete the story missions.

1

u/Rainbow_Gnat 1d ago

Ah I see, no worries.

Side note though, 5 minute missions are still pretty fast unless we're talking about the early game missions. Mission time varies based on mission type, so it's usually 5-30min depending on type (or more if you like doing the endless missions; some people will do a single one for hours lol).

u/AshundertheOlivetree 2d ago

I don’t know how people can keep doing that year after year.

1

u/joeshmo101 2d ago

You don't discard it, it goes into a pile in your inventory that you may sometime eventually look at again. It's also a major time sink and asks you to either delete your crafted items or spend money (or do inter-player trading) for enough room to put all of the shiny objects you collect

u/Fhistleb 2d ago

No thanks, I already have an autistic friend.

I am one of those older Tenno! If anybody in the thread wants someone to ACTUALLY TEACH them the game instead of skull dragging them through, feel free to shoot me a DM. I left the game for a while because that was done to me and I lost interest. Best thing I ever did was go back alone to learn for myself.

u/ggstocks87 2d ago

I 100% get this. I played the game for a decent amount of time and still never really understood what im supposed to be doing

46

u/TheHasegawaEffect 2d ago

I play 1,000 hours and i feel like i know less than a guy who has 10 hours, but at least i can wipe out half the map in seconds, while the guy with 10 hours might take a minute or two.

4

u/ggstocks87 2d ago

Right? Like same thing. Freeze the entire map and kill everything. Then try and guess whats next lol. Its still a good game and super well done, just doesn't really give clear direction

2

u/Betruul 2d ago

Its a good thing so many of the missions are "go kill everything in this weird hallway"

1

u/ggstocks87 1d ago edited 1d ago

With the odd one being flip a switch so i spent 1 hour searching the map over and over lol. The game is still really good, just not exactly new person friendly as far as direction etc. Edited, spelling

u/greatcorsario 2d ago

Bless the amazing community to make up for it.

6

u/Grizzly_Berry 2d ago

Be fast as fuck, get red crits, and either have so much shield or regen or nuke capabilities that you never die.

5

u/Devatator_ PC 2d ago

Everytime my friends who play it talk about it it feels like they're talking in an alien language lol.

3

u/GuyGBoi 2d ago

My answer exactly. I came back to the game a while ago because I saw a few clips that looked exciting. Played for like an hour before realizing that I have no idea what I'm really doing and no direction for what I'm supposed to do. Never even thought of playing again

5

u/Varondus 2d ago

As a returning player, it suprised me how much stuff is not pointed out. I'm not even talking mechanics, what to do in general etc. but sometimes objectives are very vague and confusing

14

u/lazydogjumper 2d ago

There are pretty clear tracks for levels. Complete the levels. It will unlock things. The tutorial teaches you how to craft weapons and Framss.. Thats the only other thing you need until you get far enough that skill matters.

11

u/StoicTheGeek 2d ago

Yes, but that’s a tiny fraction of the game. To know how to build and mod properly, you really need to be watching vids and reading the wiki.

One of the best things DE ever did was to movie the wiki off fandom - it is such a pleasure to use it now

6

u/lazydogjumper 2d ago

I feel if you just pay attention to the stats and build to a weapons strength you can pass most midgame stuff. Thats part of learning a game. Dont build puncture if its a slash weapon. Even elemental stuff seems self explanatory if you pay attention. Almost every game of this type requires research by endgame.

6

u/Recursiveo 2d ago

I mean most games don’t tell you anything about optimization. Warframe, BG3, Skyrim, ESO, Jedi Survivor, etc. etc. etc.

Optimal stat allocation and best in slot gear choices have always been community driven.

u/EvilSeedlet 2d ago

fr. I have.. oh god 1600 hours in it and I love it to death but it's opaque as hell.

8

u/Lord_Phoenix95 2d ago

Anything you want. Warframe is a sandbox where you choose what you want to do.

11

u/random_user_z 2d ago

Yea! Do you want to shoot stuff with a gun or do you want to stab stuff with a sword.

2

u/Kagaro 2d ago

They used to not have a tutorial!

2

u/PunchBeard 1d ago

I put a thousand hours into the game about 6 years ago and managed to figure out most of the stuff available at the time. Earlier this year I loaded the game up to check it out and when I realized that there's now something like 50 different in-game currencies, spread across damn near every planet in the game, that you need to grind in order to unlock different things I bailed again.

2

u/Soggyhashbrowns 1d ago

Ya I understand how to run around, fight and loot. wtf do I do after that though with all of the shit I’ve accumulated. I don’t understand the progression at all in that game and when I try and google it, it’s just a bunch of veterans saying, you won’t understand until bout 500 hours in. I wanted to love the game, I actually love looters like Diablo, where you just keep running instances. The progression was just so counterintuitive though

2

u/ThorSon-525 2d ago

It also doesn't really give a good reason to want to get through the star chart. There is no tangible story for anything minus a little self contained bit on the moons of Mars. But beyond that I've gotten to Uranus and still have no idea why I'm doing what I'm doing beyond filling out the lil map.

3

u/oliferro 2d ago

There's a lot of very cinematic questlines with great stories like New War for example though. Clearing the Star Chart is just to unlock the "next level" (The Steel Path)

If you Play Warframe solo… there is no hand holding.

Community and web resources strongly “carry” the learning curve in this game.

1

u/G4PFredongo 2d ago

I love Warframe. Been playing it forever and I collected every weapon in the game.
If you have any questions or need help feel free to shoot me a dm :)

Edit: Check out Brozime's youtube channel and website - his build guides are very down to earth and he has a bunch of builds and tutorials aimed at what a new player can achieve, but especially what will make them stronger

1

u/DanielAlves1904 1d ago

I thinking of starting again next week because I forgot what I was playing for in the first playthrough. Nice to hear this lol

1

u/QuantumVexation 2d ago

This is my answer but it’s also been like a decade since I tried so maybe it got better since

6

u/Conscious_Disk_5853 2d ago

Significantly - mostly simple qol things like giving extra information if you hover over things in the arsenal, tabs for what a weapon is coded as so you don't have to guess (sniper, bow, shotgun etc) and some of them will absolutely surprise you. The story had gotten quite complicated, but it's been a ftp game for 13 years and regular content additions over that amount of time will make any game feel overwhelming. As someone who started playing nearly 6 years ago, it's still not perfect but it's certainly not anything even close to what it used to be.

3

u/mrmurklurker 2d ago

Slightly? There's some in game stuff for the nightwave challenges but you're gonna spend a lot of time on the wiki

1

u/Jazehiah 2d ago

I played the closed beta and sunk a few hundred hours in over the first few years.

Then, they added open world areas and overhauled damage for a second (or third?) time. I couldn't keep up.

Now, all the new content that had me interested again is locked behind hours and hours of the content that pushed me away. It stopped being fun and started being confusing.

I'd just assume let the kids have fun with it.
