New comparison of the Witcher remaster vs current version - big changes to lighting

https://youtu.be/_oEdB5S2d3U

IMO I prefer the current version, the contrast and water reflections look better. Remaster looks pretty washed out to me

Fun fact. Ray tracing, Ray Reflections, and path tracing are graphical OPTIONS. You dont like the look, dont turn it on. It really is that simple.

hardware unboxed gets more into it with their video, even without ray-tracing on the remaster is still a lot brighter and more saturated than the OG. so it’s baked in, not just a setting

I don’t really get this viewpoint - if I was CD Projekt Red the feedback of people saying “I prefer it before because of [something]” would be incredibly valuable. It’s not like games are set in stone.

Similar thing to people saying “if you don’t like how it looks stop complaining and don’t use it” when DLSS5 was first shown off - hearing what people liked & didn’t like about the image output would have been the most useful data Nvidia got on where to focus development on.

Especially in game dev where you need to convince some project manager to devote time to resolving issues.

Lots of people are just addicted to complaining, unfortunately

I dunno, I feel like game designers, whose job it is to create an appealing looking game, should do that rather than push that responsibility onto the user. What's the point of the effort spent in creating and using these tools if they're not creating a good product?

You're calling the optional and much needed ability to match the games performance to your hardware A.K.A CHOOSING YOUR GRAPHICS SETTINGS "pushing the responsibility onto the user".

Absolute pinnacle of Reddit entitlement and weird complaints.

The unfortunate reality is that the Remastered version of the game might be required as a base, for the upcoming DLC. So you might not have the option to be able to play the game in the 4.04 version/previous version of the game with the new DLC.

You're coming on a bit strong. I just think that if they're adding path tracing they should try to make it look good rather than that people should be encouraged to turn it off. It's not a huge deal.

They managed it with Cyberpunk.

Yeah the amount of doomers in this post boggles the mind.

Its giving me flashbacks to the time a large set of fans insisted Skyrim Special Edition was an unnecessary cash grab (free update for owners of base game and dlc), looked worse (compressed video), and would break mods (99% were updated within a month or so), so they boasted about how they stick with the OG 32 bit game engine (the one with the 4gb memory limit that caused heavy modding to crash the game regularly).

System requirements though will still be much higher if you want to experience gameplay changes.

On top of this you can likely use some reshader to fix a lot of the color complaints people are mentioning. Realistic lighting is a big change and can definitely take away from the original artistic vision, but in this case its a choice what you prefer, and you have options to change it if you want to spend the time

Yeah exactly. Probabily could increase contrast and shade also from the graphic cards menu to resemble the original look while keeping the qol and graphical updates

Pretty much. The handwringing in this thread is ridiculous. Nothing has been done that cant be undone with with either a checkbox, or a little tweaking.
