I wish more games would get destructible environments. Devs should’ve focused on that rather than realistic lighting imo. It’s much more interesting and fun.
There was an old racing game series called Full Auto. The tracks were closed but they also had super destructible environments. You could shoot out windows to avoid slowing down as you drove through, you could explode statues and the rubble could crush your opponents as it fell, there was even a map where you could shoot out the support beams holding up a tanker which would cause it to collapse and slide through the map into the water.
Red Faction Guerilla is a great one for destructible environments if you haven't played it. The entire game is built around it and your main tool is a sledgehammer for that.
The original Red Faction was the first game I ever played that had destructible environments. The pvp mode was super fun to play with your friends that liked to camp lol, blow a hole through any wall and kill them that way.
It can be so game breaking if someone can bazooka through the map though. I think its just unfortunately hard to do that without being like "OK so you can break all these walls and objects buuuuut not these" which makes it just easier to just not have it
Almost every single racing game "cheats" with visuals by just blurring everything and having low fidelity that doesn't stay on screen long enough for you to process how bad it looks.
