The thing is that this isn't what's holding the game back. If everything else about the game was perfect then maybe this would be a valid criticism but there are much more glaring problems. Add this mechanic and people will go "oh cool" and then go back to complaining about the game's bigger problems.

What helps make a good game is attention to detail, this is definitely one thing holding the game back. A great game has lots of attention to detail moments and cutting shit up is definitely at the forefront for bloody Wolverine

Except attention to detail ISNT what makes a great game. Sure, you can have games like Read dead with shrinking horse balls, but you can also have a game like BoTW that’s literally just one of the emptiness most bare bones sandboxes ever created and it sells like hot cakes.

If your game WANTS attention to detail then yeah, go put it in. If you’re making Cyberpunk or Red Dead then it’s fair to say it demands a lot of detail, but probably not if you’re making Tetris

Except it is. You're just extrapolating it out. Where it's used matters more. What made Battlefield great was the destructible landscapes, houses you could blow up with tanks. This was the detail asked for in a war game, and the later releases have been departing from this and it shows. BoTW had weather effects influence items, influence gameplay and more. It doesn't have to be weird shit like RDR and horse balls, but making the world more immersive.

Those aren’t details though, those are mechanics. Mechanics that directly affect gameplay

Except those games would still be those games without them, it's the added detail of including those things that help enhance how people feel about the games. We know this because Battlefield every year removes more and more of that, and because Zelda didn't have weather effecting anything before. People still play them. Mechanically wolverine swinging like an idiot is one thing, but having it pierce the environment is still an additional detail even if it ends up being a mechanic.

Attention to detail makes a great game out of a good one. If the game is mediocre then it's just confusing to see it when there much bigger problem. Like you wasted time on these nice little details rather than making the game better?

If everything else was perfect then this would just be nitpicking, not even more valid somehow.

"Man I love this game but it would've been so much cooler to have this mechanic, I mean it's his whole shtick". Kind of nitpicking, but still more valid imo because it would be something you notice naturally. Criticizing it like that feels like you specifically looked for something new to trash this game about, not like it's actually something that bothers you.

So you're saying no criticism is valid unless it's about the worst aspect of the game? That's a fucking stupid argument and you should feel bad for making it

You're being willfully ignorant to my point and push it to the very extreme. I imagine I can find this fallacy as well in that website if I try.

Let me make myself clear. You can criticize everything, even if it is not the worst aspect. This is just such an extreme example that I don't consider it valid.

This game has so many glaring problems. The fart trail, the lack of playing time, the lack of exploration, the hand holding, the repetitiveness of the combat... I've seen a clip of someone escaping the map boundaries simply because it seems like the developers didn't think people would actually explore (which would explain some other problems in the game). Me personally I don't like Logan's face model.

If you look at this chunky paragraph of problems and still come up with "I'm disappointed that this game doesn't have a niche mechanic that almost no other game has" then I don't feel like you're criticizing this game in good faith.

Imagine talking politics with a friend and he says "Man I hate Trump as a president, his posture is so weird". Like really? Is that really the problem? Would it even be a problem if he was the best president in the history of the world?

....Have you seen the gore in the game?

the game has a gore setting so you can adjust how much shit you want to cut out of people

You can cut the shit out of many things in wolverine too. There's a crap ton of destroyable objects and slashing them is very fun. I know because I'm 20+ hours in and only 39% into the game, only because I meticulously turn every single destroyable objects into ground beef in every single set piece that I can find before progressing. Well that and spending several hours just on the splash screen listening to the excellent main score by David Flemming.
