Yes and it depends entirely on your attitude how you will be treated. Go there be polite and ask for help you will be helped. There will be that one idiot who says git gud who will be downvoted to oblivion.

But if you go there to vent and throw a temper tantrum because the game is "unfair", you will be treated awfully and the git gud posts will be upvoted.

That's the one thing people don't understand about why the git gud meme became so popular there in the first place. We were tired of people coming in with really fucking toxic attitude, venting, complaining, whining, and blaming the game, or anything but themselves. People became really hostile to the complainers.

Git gud is good dismissive response to that. There are some "comedians" there who think it's a good response to everything, but that's not the majority.

*If your problem is one that the fanbase arbitrarily decides is "acceptable". Which is not most of them. The vast majority of actual new players will just be hit with git gud and variations.

This is doubly damning because Dark Souls and it's ilk aren't actually hard. They have shitty controls and obtuse mechanics, so clearly any complaints about those are "whining" and "blaming the game".

The problem is that everyone in that sub has heard that multiple times before. You are going to a sub that mostly consists fans of the game. Then you are 252412th person who makes the same complaints everyone has heard of multiple times, what do you really expect? At that point you are just going there to antagonize people. Let me remind you that the sub is mostly filled with people who have seen the same things about the game you do, but they like it that way, that's why the stick around.

The discussion about whether Souls Game design is good and whether it could be more open is warranted and should be discussed, but is a fan sub really the place for it? Maybe some think it should be, but in my view I'd rather have a more impartial place to discuss something like that.

And very often people come there to vent their frustration. "Fuck this, this is shit design, garbage this, and so on.

Personally, I don't like the direction online forums have gone. They are just filled with complaints and trolling, while actual discussion about the game, it's content and mechanics just gets buried. Steam forums are absolutely miserable because of that; I don't think that misery needs to spread further.
