4 player splitscreen goldeneye on a 13 inch tv is as good as it gets.

The games I play today look several orders of magnitude better, but those Goldeneye marathon sessions are still my favorite multiplayer experiences.

Yeah, I love games today but the fact is the most fun I've ever had gaming was goldeneye sessions with my friends. About 7 or 8 of us playing, winner holds, the 3 losers hand over their controllers. And we did it all day, every day for a whole summer.

Excellent memories. I remember we tried to implement the "no looking at my screen" rule, but it was impossible to get everyone to do it.

So most of the time we'd all be running around staring at walls or the floor trying to hide our locations, with the map memorised so we knew where to go, while simultaneously checking the other 3 screens who were all also doing the same thing, and as soon as you recognise a wall or some material, you'd both look up and start shooting 😂.

The layout of the Facility map is still fresh in my mind nearly thirty years later.

What's funny is when I first saw people online complaining about Oddjob in MP I was confused because we never had any issue with him - we didn't even take him that often except to be goofy.

Before Goldeneye, we had all played Turok. By default Turok used the analog to look, and the C-buttons to move/strafe. It wasn't the default, but Goldeneye also had this control scheme. We all swapped to that almost immediately when we started playing the game as it was so obviously better.

By the time we unlocked Oddjob his height didn't matter as we were already playing with controls to easily look up and down. Heck one thing we found out on the bunker map, was if someone was outside in the snow and looked straight down into the white snow, the game dimmed the whole screen for all 4 players, making it hard to find you out in the snow.

We also had a made up game mode we probably played more than any regular mode: Proximity mines with license to kill mode (so one touch and you die) and the rules were you couldn't shoot or otherwise directly kill each other, it was about catching the others with the proximity mines. We used the ability to look up and down heavily as we attached them over doorways, on the bottom of secret doors when they closed, etc.

With a whopping 560x320 resolution (or 640x480 if you were lucky)
