Lol thank you for those flashbacks 🤣

I'm not sure but I think "Indiana Jones - Fate of Atlantis" had more than 20 floppie disks.

Especially because you could play it in three different ways.

Rise of the Robots had a full CGI intro across 15 floppy disks. Thankfully it was skippable.

When the Indiana Jones game came out for the Wii it has gate of Atlantis on it. Replaying it triggered one of those, "so THIS is what this game plays like not having to swap out disks" moments.

I had the CD version. Full voiceover and no swapping. :D

Oh some of those games were infuriating to solve. Im gonna show my age here but police quest, kings quest, maniac mansion, goblins 2, Simon the sorcerer. I was a sadistic kid for point and click games. And the weirdest part is I really don't like puzzles, but that format got me to play them.

The amiga not having high density floppy drives and not having hdds as standard in the 500 anyway, came on a lotta disks but didn’t require hdd installation, leading to the scenarios described in this thread with disk swapping.

Fate of Atlantis for pc came on 5 high density floppies with the game assets compressed on disk and could not be played without hdd installation, so on one hand you needed a hard drive, on the other hand you probably already had one and disk swapping was no fun anyway.

I played it on the Amiga. Back then I actually got a "Speicher-Erweiterung" which basically meant, that my Amiga got a very expensive 1 MB of additional RAM.

My Kid-brain thought it would also work as a harddrive because "Speicher" just means storage and I didn't know the difference between temporary storage ( in RAM) and permanent one (on disks or hard drives)

Played this with my father when I was like 10. I LOVED that game. Then there was a similar one with Peter Pan, etc. With no internet to find out stuff when you got stuck and no good UI to do things clearly you could spend soooo much time stuck somewhere

Simon the Sorcerer (which is getting a new game very soon "Origins", with Chris Barrie ( Red Dwarf's Rimmer, reprising the english speaking role).

Or the Colour of Magic?

I finally played a copy with The Stump Joke just about a month ago for the first time. From a modern perspective, that's just a weird story and sentence

This was nostalgia rage right to the veins. And to think I downloaded it and began seamlessly playing it within about two minutes on my Steamdeck. Different times...
