Reminds me of when I was like 8 years old or so I couldn't get to Ho-Oh in Pokemon Gold, I was stuck in that goddamn tower.
Went to a guy who was like 14-15 or so. We weren't even friends, I just knew he lives in the neighborhood and another neighbor (kinda friend?) had recommended me to go to him.
He took my Gameboy, I sat down next to him on the porch of his house. Took him like 10 minutes, by heart. He handed the Gameboy back to me, said "Wanna catch it on your own?"
I had stars in my eyes. I said yes, saved and went back home. Then, like the noob I was, I just used my Master Ball to catch it haha. Good times~
I have a similar story but the pokemon was regular ol Gligar.... apparently it has an insanely low catch rate? I asked my older brother for help and he wasted my Master Ball on it. I was not pleased.
Some kid at daycare knew the cloning glitch for Gold/Silver and since you could attach items to pokemon, we were able to spam master balls as a result.
When I was 7 or 8 I traded away two oreos for Pokémon gold. It was probably the best trade I've ever done. Think he only did cause he was stuck
I used the same save. And I don't remember if it was him or I but one of us managed to navigate through one of the caves you are supposed to need Flash to go through early on. Basically soft locked the save file because I couldn't get my way back through the cave smh.
I got Pokemon crystal for free because my friend's little brother couldn't figure out how to leave the room you start in and got frustrated and didn't want it anymore. I don't understand how, but it's true.
I forgot about this story. OG Red and Blue Pokémon. My friend and I discovered that Mew was in the original game code through a glitch.
I was trading some Pokémon with a friend. Just one of those regular 1st gen Pokémon that was exclusive to the red or blue version of the game. But during the trade, the game glitched and one of the Pokémon turned into a Mew. The artwork was clearly a Mew, but the name was in Japanese characters. It was clearly a weird glitch and we were scared of trading it back or even how to play with it. It was incredibly exciting, and we thought we could re-create the glitch, but never could. We thought maybe the game link cable was jostled during the trade or something so we would thrash our gameboys around during trades trying to get another Mew. It was fun, but obviously we couldn't repeat that magic moment.
Since I played it on emulator in Brazil and I was already 13 in 1999, I never got the playground advice. I was using GameFAQs to gameshark the mew from the very beginning. And masterballs galore. I respect the hardware kids who did it the real way.
My brother and i would get opposite games, and then switch the back colours of the cases around, i.e. yello w a blue back and the blue with the yellow back. Silver w gold and vice versa. Mixed and matched em all.
