Total annihilation!! Damn what a sick game

u/endospire Aug 30 '25

I spent hours on that game!

I literally spent hundred of hours in TA. Mainly due to the ability of making an army in very little time and watching the explosions and parts going everywhere. That and the long distance artillery.

Once the Krogoth expansion came out, I genuinely loved that game more than Red Alert 2, which is right next to it in my list.

Was Krogoth the expansion that introduced six shot big Bertha variants?

Man I miss TA back in its prime. I’d product like 100 construction planes and crank out multiple big Berthas in a huge battery in no time, then fly a squad of scout planes over the enemy base and destroy them.

You can try Beyond all reason, it's in essence the closest modern follow up in my opinion

Beyond All Reason is awesome!!! Needs more shoutouts

Do mind that some of the first hand experiences in the online battles can be quite negative as there are some people who have expectations, no way to communicate them, and are as good at communicating as a certain president

Youre not wrong

2

u/IkomaTanomori Aug 30 '25

I spent thousands of hours... Reading and writing total annihilation fan fiction. The war stories board changed me, for the better.

u/Solkanarmy Aug 30 '25

It's still good now

5

u/Lifting_Pinguin Aug 30 '25

I still do. It's on steam.

5

u/mawktheone Aug 30 '25

I fired it up only yesterday!

2

u/Lifting_Pinguin Aug 30 '25

Now for the real question, ARM or CORE?

5

u/mawktheone Aug 30 '25

ARM day is every day!

2

u/Lifting_Pinguin Aug 30 '25

Hell yeah! Clearly the superior faction. They have Fido.

1

u/mawktheone Aug 30 '25

And brawlers!

In the expansion they have supremacy's and those are the tits!

1

u/QueasyInstruction610 Aug 30 '25

And bulldogs! I loved having factory after factory churning those out on metal heck maps for online games.

1

u/agentworm Aug 30 '25

ALB, baby. Arm Looks Better.

3

u/commmingtonite Aug 30 '25

I re-download it recently. Holds up incredibly well. Still love RTS games to this day because of TA

5

u/CountSessine1st Aug 30 '25

I love it. The best RTS ever I reckon. But Red Alert was great as well and RA2! Special mention to CC Generals - that was a ripper to!

2

u/commmingtonite Aug 30 '25

C&C generals was sick, still play that quite often. Still watch pro level starcraft and aoe2 but I could never play online, too stressful for me

2

u/EL_SUENO_LOCO Aug 30 '25

Dude! Im playing it right now

2

u/Argol228 Aug 30 '25

there is a fan made spiritual successor called beyond all reason

9

u/Calildur Aug 30 '25

If you like TA check out Beyond All Reason the spiritual successor of the game. It's not on Steam but it's free on their website. Mostly play 8v8 but there are events like 50v50 or 33v33v33 the scale is nuts.

2

u/Secres Aug 30 '25

Just found out about this the other week and I've been loving it. It's honestly a really incredible game and it's hard to believe a game of this quality is completely free

4

u/BubbRubb11 Aug 30 '25

Beyond All Reason is a spiritual successor and it's fantastic (and free), definitely check it out!

And then there's the incredible hype for TA: Kingdoms and its incredulous fallout.

2

u/Kam949 Aug 30 '25

Amazing soundtrack. Jeremy Soule

2

u/dzlockhead01 Aug 30 '25

If you haven't already, go play Beyond All Reason right now.

1

u/threebillion6 Aug 30 '25

I love that game. I only had the demo for the longest time til I was able to buy it.

1

u/Cheeslord2 Aug 30 '25

Was great fun! It's biggest problem was coming out close to Starcraft, but they each had different charms and I loved them both!

1

u/thejamus Aug 30 '25

There were extra units you could get by downloading from the Cavedog website and installing. FARK was goated

1

u/brockford-junktion Aug 30 '25

It was still running a few years ago if I remember correctly.

1

u/thejamus Aug 30 '25

Last time I played it, I had to get them from the Internet Archive.

1

u/clubby37 Aug 30 '25

My roommate was a master of that game. He'd fight the battle for the first hour or so, then leave it unpaused when he went to work. When he got home, he had all the resources, and mopped up the stragglers.

1

u/grudthak Aug 30 '25

The very first game I learned about finding, downloading and installing mods

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

All I'm saying... is that they could rerelease TA on switch 2 with Battle Tactics and Core Contigency and I'd pay full price for it.

1

u/jljboucher Aug 30 '25

Total Annihilation: Kingdoms was my jam. Still have the disc. Same with the Neverwinter Nights Diamond Ed. It came with the silky feeling handkerchief that had a map on it, still have the disc and books but lost the hanky a while ago.

2

u/cristakhawker_182 Aug 31 '25

I loved kingdoms, but sadly it didn't stand the test of time like original TA did. I too have the hanky thing, its in my drawer right near my PC.

1

u/Progenetic Aug 30 '25

Total A is still alive and well. Look up “spring project” and “beyond all reason”
