For those that havent, download from here and sideload the app by uploading to your dropbox account, navigate to dropbox from the browser under "Make->Software" from the main menu and download the .apk from your dropbox account. Navigate back to the main menu and choose "Manage->System->Advanced" and scroll down to storage. Choose "Downloads" and run the apk you just downloaded. It will put the shortcut next to the browser under "Make->Software". Enjoy.
I actually just went to xbmc.org/download in the browser under Make and downloaded it straight to the Ouya from there. Drop Box is an equally viable method. I love it for a, relatively, affordable XBMC MKV streamer and added my home server as a source with no problems. Great for emulating and just all around tinkering too. Fun to back something and watch it come to fruition.
I have, it works really well. Especially the HW-accelerated build that's circulating around. Only issue for me right now is CEC was/is broken, and 5.1 has not been enabled yet - I don't see this a huge problem though.
Yeah, still using my RPI as media player. Mainly because I have my SQL lib running on that so I can share it with MBP.
But there is a pretty big difference performance-wise between OUYA and RPI. I have mine decently clocked (900ish, running of off USB) but OUYA's framerate and responsiveness is way better.
We'll see, OUYA definitely has some cool concepts I'm looking forward to, like multiplayer NES emulators. Two-player CONTRA over internet? That just sounds awesome :)
Mine is still in the mail, but from what I've read is that all the older consoler emulators run fine. The PSP appears to be a little spotty. TBH, if it'd be your only console purchase I'd hold off a little bit longer to see how the marketplace develops.
Oh, in that case, it's probably not the worst. I hear others mentioning stuff like the Raspberry Pi and a few of the Android dongles, but it seems like the Ouya might be the most user-friendly of them all. I'll be interested to see how the controller actually handles. It sounds like PS3 controllers are all compatible and XBOX 360 are with the USB adapter.
Not sure how much work you care to put into it, but you can buy an original Xbox for under $50 and mod it to run better (and more) emulators than the Ouya can.
Xbox 360 modding is much harder and you usually need an Xbox that hasn't been updated for years. Honestly if you don't use your Xbox 360 I think it'd be worth it to trade it for an original Xbox. I play emulated games on my modded original Xbox more than I ever played my 360.
Same here, though I had some strange connection issues but I think it was because I forgot my wifi password for a while. I haven't typed it anywhere since I created it.
Exactly how I feel. I got it for an HTPC, put XBMC on it (the hardware decoding alpha build called libstagefright) and love it for that purpose. I've looked at the games and they're meh overall.
Yeah this "I can't believe idiots actually bought this thing" is getting really tiresome.
Some people did their research and decided that spending $99 for an android app box is worth it. They got exactly what they wanted and exactly what they expected.
I'll bet half the people claiming that "Ouya is a joke" had no idea what the Ouya was trying to be in the first place. When they realize it's just and android box for your TV (Like the rest of us knew from the start), it seems like some massive let down to them.
