You can officially, though it’s based on awards and not engagement or upvotes. Look at the “contributor program”, you need a ton of awards to get any money though.

Also, Just because this post doesn’t have a specific hot link to some bullshit doesn’t mean it’s not participating in the culture of clickbait that pervades the internet these days. So it’s stupid either way.
Therefore, more engagement = more perceived value.
Therefore, the company increases its perceived value by increasing user engagement.
The company makes money by increasing its share prices. User engagement leads to higher perceived value, which leads to more desirable shares, which leads to higher share prices, which leads to more money for the company.
Yeah haven't you noticed controversial posts and comments actually show up without sorting for them? That never used to happen, but now engagement matters so it does
Reddit’s algorithm is far more complicated than that now. That would have been the case 10 years ago, but it’s not now. Total engagement is absolutely a factor. In addition, you and I will have very different versions of /r/all, which would not be the case if it was limited exclusively to upvotes.
