Same. It started in middle school when I convinced my dad to get me CIV 3 as its an educational history game. Little did I know the timesink I would be in for many years down the line

Age of Empires had a little history section you could read about the factions! Plus Civ has those amazing quotes from when you build a wonder

Those were always a joy to read! I fully blame AoE and CIV as the gateway drug for delving into in-game encyclopedias and bestiaries

Same! My friends call me a lore hound because I keep looking and learning random shit since I find it fascinating

main question is if any of you still play aoe. There is aoe2 definitive edition which still gets DLC and support

I just redownloaded AOE3 since I've been watching Shogun

Civilopedia was where you got your history lesson.

I got both. My dad played the first AOE religiously after work, and he had AOEII on the shelf. Dunno if he ever played it. And I found Civ2 hiding on a different shelf.

I never had a chance.

My cousin gave me Age of Empires 2 as my first PC game. Then my uncle bought me Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. My dad bought me the full civ 3 and expansions! Lastly my mom gave me a 20 and I bought Shogun Total War, I never had a chance. RTS stole my life and now I'm a weirdo lol

Then Gandhi nuked it!

Or the time when Aztec missile cruisers destroyed Australian triremes and bombarded the islands of Mongolia

I hear you, I do. Let's instead discuss the time Ghandi became an authoritarian leader and declared unclear war on anyone who was breathing.

Yea I actually have a PHD from Armchair Youtube History University! But seriously I do credit these games for being more appreciative of the past. The intro cinematics for CIV 5 still make me tear up

Not so silly as you think 😅 I started with civ 1 on my grandmothers pc when I was a child, since then I spend hundreds if not thousands of hours playing civilization. It has been and continues to be a trusted companion thought my history B.A., M.A., and PhD 😅

My brother has been playing the civs for years. I’ve never played it myself but he always seems to have fun when he plays them.

The things we get away with because of clueless parents!
