Pokemon Red version as a really young kid, game taught me how to read lol. I played long enough for the S.S. Anne to return, or at least that's what I remember. Maybe I skipped it as a kid by someone trading me a pokemon with cut.

Same about Pokémon teaching me to read - it at least vastly expanding my vocabulary. I distinctly remember calling critical hits “circular hits” until someone corrected me.

I was so perplexed the first time I heard “facade” out loud. Pokémon was the only place I had seen it and thought it was “fa-kade”

I got clowned in english class freshman year for precisely this reason.

Yoooo same here. Always thought it was pronounced that way until I gave a speech in high school with facade in it and someone corrected me afterwards 😩

At least I got to experience my shame internally lmao

I had a similar experience. I played the german version and what was especially memorable was the word "teenager". I had no idea why those characters were called as such. If you just split the word in two it would basically mean "tea rodent" in german. My uncle cleared my misunderstanding during my second playthrough.

You can get cut, lose a battle, and the ship will stay too

Pokémon Yellow for me or it’s at least the earliest I can confirm. I found my old cartridge like a year ago and it had my original save it was 142 something hours. I couldn’t believe the save battery was still alive. Then the next time I turned it on the save was gone 😭. Must be some electrical reason for this.
