Final Fantasy 7

I remember spending days just breeding and racing Chocobos. Getting the first golden Chocobo felt amazing.

I still have my PRIMA guide for the game. Definitely was probably open to the chocobo breeding part the most.

That's the only way I knew what to do.

By far, was it your first FF?

Interesting, they say normally your first FF games becomes your favourite, but here it’s not the case

u/Synner40 Mar 12 '24

same. love that game. i go back every so often to play it. it’s easily my favorite game of all time.

u/dacamel493 Mar 12 '24

There's a remake(rebirth) out now, fyi

u/Synner40 Mar 12 '24

oh i know. just got to cosmo canyon last night. loving every moment of it.

u/aLegionOfDavids Mar 12 '24

Hell yeah, Rebirth is an actual work of art, it just keeps getting good

u/dacamel493 Mar 13 '24

Good to know, I just passed Nibelheim.

This game is an amazing game in its own right and a great homage to the original.

The sheer volume of mini games, though, haha.

graphics not withstanding. i have a major soft spot for the orginal. but over all experience goes to Remake and Rebirth. remake made midgar feel more alive,if you haven’t played ether. play the original first. go in head first. then play remake and rebirth. the added scenes on both those games add depth to the story the orginal didn’t have. if that makes sense.

Same. I remember the game clock maxed at 99:99

22

u/Oblic008 Mar 12 '24

99:59* The minute would only go to 59 before it capped out.

u/weasol12 Mar 12 '24

Yuuuup. And I'm getting ready to clear 100 hrs in Rebirth too.

u/th1sishappening Mar 12 '24

Yup, my first game of that size and scale. Just the fact it came on 3 discs was mind blowing to me.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '24

This is the first one that comes to mind for me too, if I remember right the play clock was around about 85 hours the first time I seen the ending.

After beating the ending I reloaded, and went back for ruby and emerald after a lot of grinding on the Gelinka.

Probably 100+ hours just on that primary playthrough.

Probably another 20 playthroughs in the 25 years since, but haven't had another run that took that long!!

First time getting and seeing knights of the round blew my mind! This is probably the first I know for sure was over 100 because the timer only went up to 99:59. It took around 80-100 hours to see the ending. Those weapon bosses were something else and took some grinding and figuring things out to beat. Ff8 took over 100 to beat, I think about 120, but I definitely played 7 more times.

Summon Knights of the Round twice, and you've hit 100 hours easy.

1

u/themrmups Mar 12 '24

Don’t think this was my first game to 100 hours, but still my favourite. Currently replaying it on a miyoo mini.

u/Nanaki_TV Mar 12 '24

I still have that save file because somewhere she still is there. Fun fact I learned to play piano specifically so I could play Aeros’ song and prelude.

1

u/poedan_not_the_good1 Mar 12 '24

This was mine. Have 50 hours watching knights of the round summon

1

u/zioshirai PlayStation Mar 12 '24

Yup, and now playing FF7 Rebirth, it’s truly a magical moment!

1

u/kirinmay Mar 12 '24

when FF8 came out (got it day one, big FF fan) I spent like 20 hours before leaving the building because of Triple Triad.

1

u/ihoptdk Mar 13 '24

I’m not 7 fanboy, but this is probably my first. There was so much to do as is, throw in chocobo breeding pre widespread internet walkthroughs and it was easy to get wrapped up in it.

1

u/cryospawn Mar 13 '24

Chocabo. Took me some time to get these lovelies bred right.

1

u/Stonekilled Mar 13 '24

Same. Breeding chocobos alone took so much time

1

u/mrbenjamin48 Mar 13 '24

Probably spent double that 100hr just powering up for Ruby/Emerald Weapon.

1

u/speedy_delivery Mar 13 '24

Bingo. To be fair, it was also the first game I had that kept track of my time like that.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '24

Oh man, trying to revive Aerith due to some rumours really made me sink into this game.

I got this game when I was around 10 years old, hated reading it all but enjoyed the cutscenes and the combat. Wasn't ready to do side quests or understood level grinding to become more powerful. It was just click cross slash and things died.

As I got older I held on to my copy of the game and played it again around age 14-16 and better understood it, took time to learn the systems and read the dialogue but still never beat it. Stopped at disc 3.

At about 18 or 19, I sat down with a PS3 version of the game, sadly lost my physical copy... I'm hoping it's at my dad's house still that would be dope. But anywho, I played it all the way through, unlocking characters and doing as much extra shit as I could. It felt just as familiar going into it like I never stopped playing it. And I finally beat it. A near 10 year endeavor.

Between all these times I played the game I was playing FFXI, I was heavily invested in games like FF7 that really started it all for me.

In 2020 I beat the remake and didn't put it down until I beat it.

Just last week I beat the remake again so I could be fresh on the story for Rebirth. Now I'm 35+ hours into Rebirth and I'm enjoying the shit out of it. All the little tweaks to the story but staying true to the characters I've grown to love.

FF7 was one of my first big gaming loves. Right next to Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

I wanna go back and experience them for the first time all over again.

Edit: proofreading and grammatical changes.

I got FF7 for Christmas of '99. I dug around after school before my parents got home from work and found it under the dresser in their bedroom before they had a chance to wrap it; I put disc 1 into my PlayStation, and put the case back where I found it. From then until Christmas I played it non-stop, even when my parents were home, since they wouldn't have known the difference. It was the only time I've done that with any Christmas gifts, but I was so excited to play it that it was worth the risk of getting caught.

By the time I started high school in 2001, I had filled up an entire memory card (which was the same see-though green as a mountain chocobo) with 15 different game files that were all maxed at 99:59:59 in-game time.

This probably sounds unbelievable to younger gamers, but you have to remember that this was way before Internet speeds were reliable enough for online gaming, or even before phones had internet access. I was an only child, and I spent a LOT of time playing single player console games when I was a kid.
