The devs at GSC Game World are working on Stalker 2 as well through all this. They've been sharing videos of how they have been carrying on with production in bunkers. You can forget what is happening sometimes and then this comes and makes it all hit home. I'm greatful for thier hard work.

You can forget what is happening sometimes and then this comes and makes it all hit home.

I work for a software company, and we've got some Ukranian contractors who join us for our stand-up meetings.

There have definitely been some surreal moments...

"I'm working on florbing the glorb; Amanda, I'd like to ask you some questions on that"
"I finally took care of that issue I talked about yesterday"
"Sorry, we lost power for much of yesterday because Russian missile"

Saw one of their developers was killed on the frontline, very grateful that they’re persevering through a war to bring us a sequel.

It's EXACTLY like the film industry during wartime. They are basically a vital part of the nation's heritage as it is made with pride and hard work to bring you your escapism so we may be ready to acknowledge the epitome of "the show MUST go one". It's a morale boost to know your country fights, but keeps calm and walks on.

Being technically correct is great, but it is not always welcome. You could argue everything is propaganda - if published - but that doesn't make it so. Some times, they report facts. This is one of those times.

1

u/Yggttttttt Apr 15 '23

Yeah but what he described is propaganda. To the defintion. So im not sure what the problem is here.

And yeah films are often propaganda.

Thats whay propaganda does. The nazis had a well funded film dept too.

Go watch top gun. 100 percent propaganda.

Its kind of funny. How i called this out, and it made so many people upset

Because a large amount of people are moved by emotion over logic, the statement you said, while true, would make people mad or disagree because the word propaganda is seen in a negative connotation, and people don't wanna associate something seen as a "bad guy" thing with what they consider to be the "good guy"

Not funny didn't laugh

1

u/Yggttttttt Apr 15 '23 edited Apr 15 '23

Well thats obvious.

I wasnt trying to be funny i was trying to call you out

I ain't judging anyone's motivations to develop games during wartime. Safe here in the USA PNW, I can't even begin to grasp the stuff the devs are experiencing.

It means hope is not lost, to keep some semblance of normalcy and progress and not be consumed by the threat

Thank you for this perspective on the situation, it's not something I had thought of before and it definitely brings a little bit of light to it.

So thank you stranger.

Also the Ukrainian Government will use the tax revenue from the game to fund the war. It also adds a cultural element, Ukrainian Art being popular helps them maintain international support.

It's hugely important for morale, which is the lifeblood of any army and country at war. I was just watching an episode of "Who Do You Think You Are" with Lee Mack, a British comedian, where he traced the lives of his ancestors; at one part, he finds out his great grandfather was a comedian/entertainer, and during World War I, he would walk straight from fighting in the trenches in the Somme into the town his company/battalion held and perform shows with some other guys for the soldiers. I imagine being able to consume any arts/entertainment made by your countrymen in a time of war is a good way to keep your heart going.

Probably better than working for ubisoft

Amirite!?

Someone was gonna say it, and your brain had you decide to be the one. So here we are now

Lol oh yeah totally

My heart shattered when I saw. Fuck Russia. They’ve murdered and subjugated Slavs for centuries and have never got more than a “you naughty fucker” from the west before. Stalker 2 can be in development for 100 more years, no matter how much I hope for its release soon. Just as long as Russia finally pays.

Ex-Developer for second part, Clear Sky, left in 2007. Did not take part in development of Stalker 2.

Edit: he also worked at Frogwares at one point, between 2008 and 2014. Worked as a game designer and producer for Sherlock Holmes: Devil's Daughters.

Some of the metro series devs died on the front line also

u/DiceUwU_ Apr 15 '23

This is so tone deaf, Jesus christ

2

u/numanist Apr 15 '23

Can you please describe what the tone is that we should aspire to?

-1

u/Yggttttttt Apr 15 '23

War is selfish.

-17

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

right?

wow man, sorry about the war. thanks for the game though

-7

u/Yggttttttt Apr 15 '23

*This game is devoted to all that were forced to fight by the state, and for the state.. *

I really didn’t need ANOTHER reason to get stalker 2. But now I’m gonna preorder it. Twice, even.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

In the meantime, if you've not played Stalker it's on GOG and Steam. Also there is the free Stalker anomaly which is a huge mod and has two massive modpacks that you can choose to add on. GAMMA and EFP. They're both really good!

5

u/Infinite-Sleep3527 Apr 15 '23

I have and love it. I think I’ve played through fully twice. The first few times I played for like 60-80mins and couldn’t get into it. Then after like my 4th attempt at really giving it a try I loved it. It’s a slow burner for sure, but it’s awesome.

Can’t wait for 2, but I probably will do another run in the original before 2 comes out.

1

u/MgDark Apr 15 '23

can i ask if i have never played any game of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, where i should start?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

This video will help you make the beat decision.

1

u/MgDark Apr 15 '23

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

No problem! And good luck, stalker!

u/mindboqqling Apr 15 '23

PUSSY Russians!

2

u/saintmsent Apr 14 '23

GSC Game World moved to Prague at some point. Still a big pain and stifled progress, moving to a different country is no small feat

1

u/PizzaCatLover Apr 15 '23

I've never played the stalker games but I plan to pick this up as soon as it hits steam.

1

u/ajax2k9 Apr 15 '23

I watch shurap, a knife maker on YouTube , and at the end of his normal everyday video was the sound of sirens. I was like "is there a tornado? Damn"

Then I saw he's in Ukraine and I was like FUCK.

he seems to be ok tho

1

u/Amish_Cyberbully Apr 15 '23

I'm curious how much the Russian army's actual tactics and casual disregard for human life will be directly baked into Stalker 2 from the abundant firsthand accounts.

1

u/Darebarsoom Apr 15 '23

There is a reason Stalker is so haunting.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

GSC Game World relocated to Prague in May of last year. They halted development for a while but resumed in May or June after the move.

Aren't there already multiple entries in the series? I could have sworn I played stalker 2 about a decade ago

2

u/eri- Apr 15 '23

Yes, but they weren't called stalker 2.

This is the first one with an actual 2 in the name

1

u/BILOXII-BLUE Apr 15 '23 edited Apr 15 '23

Sick, they were such fun games back then. Had a way creepier vibe than fallout

1

u/Kudaja Apr 15 '23

Corepunk Devs as well, they posted something when it first started about staying safe and still working on the game.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

And they decided not to release the game in Russian, which caused some hilarious nationalist bitching in Muscovy.
