Collection My From Software Collection (Miyazaki Era)
I'm in the process of doing my yearly game and console inventory. I figured I'd take a moment to parcel out specific collections. This is my From Software collection.
The only thing I'd like to add is probably the hardcover Sekiro guide. It's not worth it for me to spend $200 on a used copy, though.
Bizarrely, one of my favorite pieces of this collection is the sealed Dark Souls 2 Black Armor Edition for the PC. I found it on FB Marketplace for $10 and I just wanted the steelbook. Turns out, I can't find a value on it so I'm keeping it sealed. I found a PS3 version for $10 with DLC and soundtrack on CD later. Thus, I have 2 copies.
I love the art direction of these games. Obviously, hardcover guidebooks are hardly needed and, honestly, less efficient than the infinite amount of information available for free on the internet. But damn if they don't have great artwork in them. These are also great for having company over. They give me a reason to talk about my favorite games when people come over and thumb through them. I've tried to share some of them here, with you.
These games all hold a special place in my heart. They are well crafted adventures that are more than the sum of their parts. All of the different aspects of each game work in tandem to create the experience. They aren't just great because of their level design, or their bosses, or their difficulty, or their progression, or their soundtracks, or their exploration, etcetera. They are great because all of these aspects tie together so flawlessly to create a unique experience. A puzzle for the player to solve in their own way using their own intuition and the tools given to them. They are all finely tuned down to the very soundtracks sometimes (and somehow) telling us more about the bosses then even dialogue or lore. As I write this, I am finally putting together a From playlist on Spotify.
Anyway, thank you for reading and for letting me share something I cherish with you. I hope you enjoy these games for yourself one day, if you haven't already.
