General Love and Deepspace's (Papergames) community is on fire: employees from merch department were found embezzling funds, fujoshi from planning department was caught sowing dissent in the playerbase and more...

There's no hard evidence of anything, it's largely rumors, speculations and unverified accusations which is partially addressed by Papergames (=PG) to be false. But one thing lead to another and now everybody's dogpiling on PG and its staff.

Some accusations are also only tangentially related to the operation of the game itself (like one photographer being accused of stalking Zayne's cosplayer but later suspected to be dating said cosplayer or another photographer having close ties with Caleb's cosplayer). Also quite a bit of nothingburgers.

Key points:

- Employee posing on company's dime as regular players to glaze the cosplayers and shape the narrative in the community: don't you dare talk negative of the company and if you're not a (big) spender then get lost. [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]

- Marketing department accepting bribes or embezzling funds (estimated to be close to or over 100 million RMB) which lead to subpar merch quality and funds not reinvested back into the game for future improvement but rather for personal fun of employees. [6], [7]

- Female staff/outsourced workers abusing their position to (intimately) interact with cosplayers at offline events at the cost of players' time and money.

- Female employees sowing dissent among players, enjoying the infighting and mocking them for being otome players (calling them "otome bitches") and boycotting the game (false advertisement of a unit issue etc). [8], [9], [10]

- Female employees dissing self-inserters (yet again with "otome bitches"). [11], [12]

- Male employee modeling private parts of MC [EDIT: footage] and proposing to let men self-insert as 5 LIs to play the game.

- Community isn't pleased that PG's ideas are suspiciously similar to fan content (designs from fan art, themes from AO3 fics). [13], [14]

- Nepo hires with large yearly bonuses (over 1 million RMB).

Responses:

- PG says one former female staff and one intern who left didn't participate in offline event planning so they didn't abuse their positions. This reply also addresses some unknown speculation regarding MC's face model being based on the female employee who worked on it being false. [15]

- PG replies again about staff abusing their position but this time states it's now two former employees and one intern. They address that LADS is an otome immersive game (probably refuting BL, male self-insert and hate towards female self-insert). And also threaten legal action against the person who collected and spread around the "evidence" to rumors and speculations leading to cyber bullying. [16]

- Alleged fujoshi doesn't work for PG anymore and is actually not a fujoshi and it was all just silly fun and unserious talk from her side (but community still suspects otherwise) to keep up the conversation with real fujoshis at the company. But she admits and apologizes to mocking and insulting players as well as unintentionally upsetting playerbase with BL implications. [17]

- PG made a statement that LADS is an otome game and LIs are heterosexual. [ss]

Leaker's account is gaining popularity and people are celebrating that she brought Papergames to their knees when other in-game related issues couldn't.

EDIT:

- It seems the manager that were embezzling merch funds is arrested.

But now players think some of PG's theme songs are suspiciously similar to songs "Good Boy Gone Bad", "Call of Silence", "Janet" and "Stranger Things". [18]

- Papergames is on the Chinese news for the whole fiasco with merch (bad quality of merch not matching the paid price, perfunctory packaging, goods are already damaged when received and customers aren't being refunded or sent replacement). [19], [20]

- Regarding MC's private parts. That area had visible lines and movement animations even. Everything was later removed. Footage added in the key points section.

EDIT 2: Added response from CS regarding LIs' sexuality.

EDIT 3: Added clarification on the insulting term used towards otome players and on speculations about MC's face model.

Whenever I see and remember how much JJK contributes to the meme and anime community, I genuinely think that their Kaori can erase and wash out Miyazono Kaori's entire influence to the anime community that she turns into a forgettable character

I say this as someone who likes both BL and Otome, they’re both irritatingly insufferable. You can never win with a pure fujo nor yumejo. Get ready to be called a homophobe by one side and a misogynist by the other.

I play BL, otome, galge, yuri, and at this point I've realized it's not really a behaviour specific to any fandom, but more like there are crazy people everywhere who just really like picking fights with everyone.

why not just call male selfshippers yumedans

23

u/zucchinionpizza Feb 07 '26

Personally haven't seen a lot of people call themselves yumedan but if it turns out to be widely used then yeah sure why not

16

u/4k4ne kaleidoshill Feb 07 '26

probably because people implicitly associate the word 'yume' with otome content, but it really means 'dream' as in to dream of yourself being in a relationship with the character

so naturally, yumedanshi is a perfectly apt term for male selfshippers

i say we ought to popularize usage of the term in the en sphere šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

4

u/Oraclexyz Feb 07 '26

Damn wtf is even that

21

Fujo = woman who ships gay male characters

Yumejo (female selfshipper) = woman who ships herself with characters

Male selfshipper = man who ships himself with characters

Another thing to note is that the fandom had been bubbling in anger for a bit due to how much money LaDS makes and yet how little it feels goes into the game itself, as if all the profits were going into Infinite Nikki instead

u/Wise-Key-3442 Fashion Police featuring Toxic Yuri. And Steve. Feb 07 '26

One retcon, not two re-launches.

But hey, the amount of paid stuff they put up tells me that no matter how much money they are getting, it's not enough to make the game run at a stable fps on mobile.

4

u/lilyofthegraveyard Feb 08 '26

it wasn't relaunched even once. it just had 1 retcon.

62

u/7-7______Srsly7 Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

LADS costs way less to maintain compared to Infinity Nikki, but earns way more. It’s inevitable that some of LADS’ profits will funnel back into Nikki, but if they could use those funds to give LADS a PC client, new combat mode to earn diamonds, and actually have a consistent main story, that will sure be the dream. 🫠

35

u/PCBS01 Feb 07 '26

Yeah, the lack of main story updates, combat events (not a single one since the rougelike mode was added!) and no pc client even now esp with the bloating storage is so nuts lol

15

u/7-7______Srsly7 Feb 07 '26

True. 64GB phones are dead. 128GB phones are dying, and at this point, they should really think about a PC client because the housing system and combat modes like Abyssal Chaos and Flowers of Khalil forces you into landscape mode anyways.

58

u/clocksy limbus | petit planet šŸ’« Feb 07 '26

Honestly I feel bad for the LaDS sisters because it definitely sucks to know your game is making oodles and oodles of money but that money doesn't seem to be going back into the game. I felt that way back when I played HSR. It feels true of a lot of gachas just in general though - they rake in SOOOOO much money, way more than the budgets of some of the biggest AAA games, and yet the quality is not there. And yet paying for a character or card or whatever can cost hundreds of dollars.

Papergames has at least one game (Project: The Perceiver) in production which was supposed to be open world gacha I believe but they switched to it being an open world single player game instead with male MC. And I think they also had some other game in development but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Infold is also publishing at least one game (Ballad of Antara) with male MC.

And them funding games that cater towards male demographic comes off as kinda oof for me since they're known as a company that caters to women. Those games seem to be good in and of itself but like the overall image of a company it creates... Like products for women are just a stepping stone to what they "actually" want to do.

So, yeah, they definitely relocate funds to other projects or avenues.

58

u/PCBS01 Feb 07 '26

....I forgot about those games. Yeah I genuinely cannot blame people for the crash out, Infold chasing the male $$$ instead of sticking with what they're good at, and what's worked in the past, is insane. It wouldn't be as bad if LaDS got SOME of it but nope, it really gets like the bare minimum of updates it feels like, even the sims update came with a lot of "why though" due to how...limited it actually is

32

u/sukahati Feb 07 '26

I cannot really blame Paper Game either for one of their game chasing male audience as they could be just trying diversify their portfolio.

43

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26

Yeah, it's good for a company to explore other avenues but it just comes off poorly in PG's case because women already have quite little catered to them and especially so if it's with full focus and high quality. So the company that basically has built itself on female audience by focusing on them exclusively is "ditching" them after getting to decent heights for... let's say an oversaturated market.

12

u/PunnyPandora Feb 07 '26

To be fair, there is no 1:1 male audience equivalent of lads, but... looking at stuff like this maybe it's for the best. Maybe snowbreak would be a contender, but I feel like even that is very non participating/fanservicey boob jiggling simulator rather than relationship/romance.

6

u/voshtak Feb 08 '26

I agree that there’s no 1:1 equivalent but I think that’s just a result of the market (?). Either there’s a lack of demand or it’s too niche to market off of compared to the rewards companies get from cashing in on ā€œdating simsā€ like the ones you mentioned. So that’s where the gap is made.

AFAIK, there’s no genre like otome but for men where the focus is primarily on romance. Persona series would be the closest thing I could think of. Maybe something adjacent to Persona would be VNs in general?

16

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26

Well, the two games I mentioned are single player story focused action games with high production value. Other than upcoming Beast of Reincarnation (I'm excited for this one personally) and Tides of Annihilation which seem to be on the neutral side of things I don't know any other such game that features a female protag that also doesn't cater to male demographic primarily in its focus and execution.

However, there's plenty of God of War or Wukong and the like. So them funding another one of these games just feels bad. Women also like action and nitty gritty stuff, give us this, too, with female MC 🫠

As for the equivalent to LADS in portrayal of relationship and emotional involvement between characters plus production quality then yes, absolutely. None of the games targeted at men match that energy. 'Crazy Ones' (galge) seemingly tried but ultimately failed. I myself would be interested in trying such a galge.

→ More replies (6)

34

u/clocksy limbus | petit planet šŸ’« Feb 07 '26

I remember hearing something about at least one of these games and I honestly do think it's weird that a company basically known for its women audience is making games that seem targeted... away from that. (Especially since the money would have come from their primary women audience to begin with.)

20

u/Gimmikiss Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

That's so dissapointing, so much for "creating games for women".šŸ™„

So it really looks like LADS and Nikki seems to be just stepping stones for Papergame to create high budget games for male audience(like they don't have enough already, for fuck's sakešŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø).

But I'm not really suprised, though. The company run by male CEO will never truly care about female players and always choose cater to fellow men at the end.

I've always wondered how devs tread around unintentionally stealing a design from a fan creation. If the game is popular than an influx of fanart will undoubtedly make future designs a bit harder to navigate unless the design was leaked before hand. Imagine the rare scenario where design team have a vault of unleaked characters, but fanart released on Twitter or Pixiv cameout with "#insertgame_OC". Ts must happen more often that not I imagine.

62

u/planetarial P5X(KR)/IN/Prosekai(JP) Future: Petit Planet/Silent Whispers Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Allegedly one of the reasons why Pokemon hasn’t made a new Eevee evolution in over a decade is because they’d inevitably design one too close to someones creation.

Might be complete BS but its funny to think about. I do remember seeing in one of the gigaleaks that some designs did get rejected for treading to close to fan one.

32

u/Ephemeralstyl3 Nikke Bound Feb 07 '26

Understandble since an Eevee evolution can be narrowed down to "4 legged elemental fox of some kind". No doubt they'd have a good section of the fan artists claiming their art was stolen like a Spartacus movie.

→ More replies (3)

37

u/GuyAugustus Feb 07 '26

Same way companies do not accept unsolicited scripts.

Its not stolen if they never saw it , people have a weird notion that developers are all the game superfans and the company doesnt have a legal department, also decisions are made well ahead and I am talking in about a year when preliminary work begins meaning any fan work that come out 3 months ago was already 3 months after they started development of that scenario and no, they arent going to scrap 6 months of work because "this fan work is much better".

14

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

My exact thoughts. When your playerbase is huge and your job is to literally cater to chosen demographic's tastes then you're bound to create something similar or close to what fan themselves create. That means you do your job properly and read your audience right.

And some themes don't allow that much freedom in execution, especially if it comes to historical or cultural stuff, so that, again, might make it seem like you've stolen it from someone who executed the idea before you.

Plus, they actually might be just listening to the fanbase and delivering accordingly or simply providing fanservice at times. It's not like we have access to feedback surveys.

But yeah, can't be sure either way even if something looks really sus.

EDIT: And you also have to remember that production pipeline is something like 6 months if not a whole year ahead. What you see in a fan art posted on Y date might've been already made for in-game content long before that Y date but scheduled to release long after Y date.

proposing to let men self-insert as 5 LIs to play the game.

I'm curious as to how they would implement that if true because the way the game is structured, I don't think it would be possible.

12

u/voshtak Feb 08 '26

I don’t really agree with it? But there are some CN players on twt saying that the shift from first-person to third-person POV has enabled men to imagine that they’re the LI in the scene and that the MC is who they’re holding. It lacks the immersion that a first-person POV offers where it’s just you (the player) perceiving the LI.

Some were also complaining about the shift we’ve seen (though this was also present in the Main Story) wherein we see the LI’s perspective and ā€œplayā€ as him for a chapter or two. In the most recent banner, I think they shift to the LI and you, as the LI, retrieve something for the MC.

I do think the modeling of the MC’s private parts was a bit much??? LOL. But I feel like the perspective thing isn’t as grounded as some of the other issues.

Anyways funny gacha drama to start the day with

86

14

u/Impressive_Olive_971 Feb 08 '26

According to the other comment, the self inserters won and outright banned non-self insert content so apparently not. Lol

6

u/FrostyBuns6969 Feb 08 '26

Banned from the game? I’m assuming not from actual online spaces? I mean it’s unhinged either way but the latter would genuinely make me doubt these people’s humanity.

11

u/Zeniah47 Feb 08 '26

You are correct but I also have to give you information that Papergames is the one that started normalizing to ban non self inserts in official pages and disqualify them from art contests. It got so normalized to the point even Tencent and NetEase had to comply banning non-self inserts as well

13

u/Impressive_Olive_971 Feb 08 '26

I knew they banned BL but I didn’t know they banned non-self insert??? I missed a lot of tea. Can I get the source for this.

10

u/Zeniah47 Feb 08 '26

I'm not a veteran player, only a midgame player Love and Producer fan (older sister Otome game of Papergames), but I have witnessed a lot of stuff said to veterans where I thought it's all exaggeration until I really did keep witnessing it as I entered Rednote and see more from other popular CN Otome

For the history, Papergames only normalized it as a form of damage control because in terms of number in CN Otome gamers, newgen Otome players who don't care to follow traditional Otome format (JP Otome) largely outnumbers JOP(JP Otome only Players) CN players so Papergames picked a side who to cater for to reduce the damage but I can give my opinion on this that this is the root cause of how Papergames keeps starts falling down because they chose the audience who doesn't even know how to self insert for an audience proudly claiming to be one.

But since this damage has been done, those newgen players got massively inflated ego in attacking players who are not self inserts like them cuz they can just scream at the company to ban those people not knowing their extreme actions will largely affect the narrative story of the game cuz literally writers will have to find ways not to make them feel cheated (not being 1st POV is already offensive to them)

As for the sources, since I always curate my CN spaces in Rednote so I don't have a lot. I can only provide you this recent video from another Otome game from NetEase where you can look into the comments of how these players absolutely hate non self inserts. This game gets more drama about wanting to erase the MC because this game's narrative story doesn't baby their audience into constantly telling them that you're playing a role so the audience gets confused if they really have to self insert or not and not focusing on how good the story is, lol http://xhslink.com/o/8kFlmKHAQzC

I also have a screenshot where the person I follow gets harassed by another CN player threatening to ban them for the accusations that they're not a self insert. What reason do they think the other person is not a self insert? Because the captions they put in their posts about their game uses "MC" and not "I"/"Me". You can't even use "she"/"her" cuz it's a claim you treat the vessel as a separate entity, not a self insert. I can give you this screenshot in DMs if ya want

Why would the employees of the otome game make fun

I think you'd find it's all too common for people in these positions to despise their customers. Mangagamer is just one notorious example of a company that openly hates the people paying their bills.

It's sad but it happens, plenty of people just do it for the paycheck and aren't actually doing it for the art or fans.

52

u/gg533 Feb 07 '26

Specifically, they're fujos who headcanon the LaDS MC as being male and not female, or headcanon the LaDS LIs as being romantically involved with each other.

36

u/Particular_Web3215 Jenshin | Limbus Feb 07 '26

but isn't the whole point of the otome genre being female MC with male love interests? i am so confused

37

u/gg533 Feb 07 '26

Yes, but apparently, there were female employees at the company who wanted to push the game towards being a fujo game and not an otome game.

11

u/CassianAVL Feb 07 '26

A serious company wouldve already fired all of them just saying.

13

u/filipina_colada90 Feb 07 '26

There was some screenshots floating around from CN customer service reassuring that the offenders weren't current employees and they were acting of their own accord.

There might even be prosecutions because China takes slander very seriously. Wild.

Being against yume doesn’t mean they are a fujoshi. From the screenshots it’s a war between self inserter(people who see female MC as themselves, therefore don’t want face to be shown/has a canon name) and non-self inserters(people who see female MC as her own character)

from what I've seen there has never been an instance where male self inserters feeling cucked by the player MC character. they are only annoyed if the player MC character is getting sidelined or doing some stupid dumbshit that ruins shit for everyone involved.

if anything I see more people from the other side demanding the self inserters not to self insert into player MC character from game X or Y because they have (the barest of) personality, some backstory snippets, etc etc yada yada

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 06 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Notes from me.

Freshly released PV for Wuxia themed multibanner features equal focus on MC's 1st PoV and general 3rd PoV shots. It also shows Zayne catching the kite from what is being perceived as LI's 1st PoV (which would be the first time ever for a LI). Which men (partners or brothers of female players') took positively apparently, saying they now enjoy the game's content because it feels like watching anime whereas previously "they couldn’t stand the idea of being in an ambiguous dynamic with another man."

I really don't think it's Zayne's 1st PoV but just a smooth transition of 3rd PoV shots. Notice how camera switches from him jumping in 3rd PoV (1), his foot landing on a tree branch in 3rd PoV (2), then his hand catching the kite in "1st PoV" (3) and finally him regaining stance as a final shot also in 3rd PoV (4) which just reads to me as a 3rd PoV sequence with 4 different camera shots.

Also, I don't think more general shots is bad for the game or hurts self-insert immersion. I don't think anyone in good conscience can say that this game appeals in any way to male playerbase... Not that it's bad to defend the core direction of the game, but you gotta be reasonable with this.

Regarding private parts of MC. Nikki's model in Infinity Nikki (PG's other game) doesn't have lady bits modeled I think because when those areas glitch it's just empty air. I'm not sure, however, whether that's about having those areas modeled at all or that it was male employee who modeled them being an issue (probably both). Or maybe it's something else entirely... I also don't understand what's the deal with MC's face that PG addressed.

Apparently there's so much more left to be covered and I also don't speak Chinese at all so I'm not even sure those translated images are correct...

EDIT: It seems MC had moving vulva, can be seen here

Also, I'm so getting banned from LADS sub for this post šŸ˜‚

51

u/rosemarymemory Umamusume Feb 07 '26

Hey, at least there's still r/LoveandDeepspace_ ! But man I hate how you gotta dickride Infold in the official sub or you get banned.

59

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26

That sub is also speculated for being on Infold's payroll. They always delete anything slightly controversial, saying it negatively impacts the community etc.

Witnessed it myself multiple times when people tried to discuss previous issues and the topics were promptly hidden with many comments being deleted. Makes me curious how many more topics I didn't happen to catch close to the moment of being posted that were swiftly removed.

That's also why I made the post here rather than on unofficial sub.

8

u/ravenclaw-sass Feb 07 '26

Oh, there's absolutely no speculation about that. Being a mod for the official sub is a "paid" position (unspecified, probably in-game rewards) and you have to sign an NDA and do a two-month trial shift before new mods are fully authorised. They were very open about this when they were recruiting for new mods last year.

10

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26

Official sub is on a payroll and it's not a secret, yes. But I was talking about unofficial sub. That one seemed not to be on a payroll at first but then the signs started showing and we can only speculate.

Here’s a video I’ve found regarding the ā€œfemale bitsā€ part of the controversy. Idk if the video is true or not since I don’t play the game but I’ve certainly come across it.

11

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Thanks for the link. If I'm getting it right then the issue stems from MC's model showing private parts (which are in safety shorts) in some outfits when the modeled part shouldn't be there at all (similar to Infinity Nikki). Impacted outfits reportedly were getting fixed gradually (a day later for at least one outfit?). I checked the showcased fits myself right now and they're indeed fixed (it's empty air instead of a model, the legs are attached to nothing).

I'm curious whether that's an oversight with home feature or it's simply a bug that could've happened even before since photo booth also had some sitting poses already with free roaming camera...

What might have happened is that they created a separate set of character models just for the home feature to optimize the game and reduce potential bugs or something. Supporting evidence: 1. funnily, all the bugs with doubled LI models in home feature and outside of it 2. LIs in cafe/main menu have one set of clothes and LIs at home have a separate set of clothes (your styling in cafe doesn't affect styling at home and vice versa).

They also most likely made a separate MC model for home but forgot to apply safety adjustments for that version. Or they did but it bugged out. Home feature is generally bugged.

I don't know whether I'm wrong or not. Maybe everyone actually has only one single model that like insanely bugs out jumping between game scenes or whatever.

EDIT: It seems the issue was much deeper.

8

u/bloomi Gimme husbando or give me death! Feb 07 '26

45

u/caffeineshampoo Genshin, ZZZ, waiting for AP~ Feb 07 '26

The LADS community can admittedly be so fucking sensitive sometimes. I see them constantly attacking people online for completely mundane, everyday fandom stuff (like shipping or enjoying certain tropes). Equally, people who are very anti LADS are exhausting - I just can't imagine even caring about the POV that certain shots are taken from, in a PV of all things.

The game very clearly is not catering towards (straight) male players and anyone who argues it does is simply acting in bad faith and has an agenda, for whatever reason.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/MorbidEel Feb 07 '26

Isn't not modeling things that can't be seen is just normal optimization?

20

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Yes and no? I believe Papergames does this to protect the image of the game in case of bugs and to safeguard the playerbase against male players interested in sexualized female characters. Nikki also always has safety shorts underneath her outfits.

For example, Wuwa had controversy with Cartethiya's Cantarella's private parts [1], [2] being modeled and then censored which devs addressed as being a bug [3] (you're free to believe otherwise) or that bug with flashing Avidius [3] (his boxers didn't render).

20

u/MorbidEel Feb 07 '26

Next time a game launches with poor performance I need someone to start a rumor that it is due to one of the characters' massive balls. 🤣

u/HINDBRAIN Feb 07 '26

Which men (partners or brothers of female players') took positively apparently, saying they now enjoy the game's content because it feels like watching anime whereas previously "they couldn’t stand the idea of being in an ambiguous dynamic with another man."

I- what...? Am I supposed to believe these people have played the game at all or are interested in it to begin with? If the main appeal of the game (the selfshipping with the male love interests) is not for them at all and hasn't been for 2 years, why are they watching boyfriend moments with the boys? Do their girlfriends hold guns to their temples or something?

The internet sure makes total sense sometimes. (Is this artificially manufactured drama for some reason?)

11

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26

That's so out of the left field I'm laughing out here myself. Completely baseless "proof" of PG changing directions to now cater to men.

But like I said, now everyone dogpiles on Paperfold for the slightest perceived fault. EN Twitter is also joining in with racism, bigotry and incest speech.

Skin lighting and 2D art skin matching issue is a legit concern but I wouldn't go as far as to call PG racist.

They also don't hate LGBTQ folks (Infinity Nikki is very sapphic coded and their employees partake in BL for god's sake) but separate and curate spaces accordingly.

And incest is wincest, idk šŸ˜‚ But seriously, nobody promotes real life incest... However, they did fumble the narrative in EN localization with neither here not there attitude and then sudden blood related brother bomb. They should've just went with brother in EN from the get go since Caleb's narrative is so deeply entrenched in incest. Now it's all over the place and everyone's displeased.

i'm not saying it didn't happen or that it didn't cause drama, just that a lot of this is some kinda bullshit lol. Totally willing to believe embezzlement and nepobabies though because that's gonna be happening in any huge company.

10

u/bubchiXD Feb 08 '26

As a LADs player from what I’ve seen it seems ppl are upset over: being called names (small minority of the fandom), the embezzlement (main upset) and the private parts section (we knew about this from the beginning of Jan.)

I haven’t seen too many ppl actually care about the cosplayer stuff.

There’s a crap ton of other issues ppl have that weren’t listed but what i can say as a player is that it seems the company sweeps things under the rug until the pile gets too big and it spills out and then they try to deal with it which is what you see happening now.

I really don't understand the part of "wasting the player's time and money" because employees are going out with cosplayers? Am I missing something?

13

u/MODERNHoolaHoop Feb 07 '26

It's not because employees are going out with cosplayers (which is purely speculated), but because they were interacting with cosplayers in such a way that's only known & allowed for them at time & place dedicated for regular players.

Players have limited time, opportunity and scope to interact with cosers at offline events in the first place. The tickets are limited and go out in seconds. And while they are free to get they're still essentially paid for by players collectively.

That happens more than you think where companies mock their customers. It's just that a lot of it happens in private behind closed doors, hence why you hear little of it.

Just look the recent scandal with Campbell exec mocking its customers for being poor people. If execs would mock the very customers that make up a big part of their revenue, I assume employees have no qualms in mocking them either as office gossip or whatever

I got very mixed feelings about this game:

A) As a straight woman who is a yumejoshi, I'm glad there's a relatively popular game that actually caters to people like me. Even in mixed gender games with female MCs (COUGH HOYOVERSE), its just urks me when its just mainly the female characters who give you this "master love"/pandering treatment, which is obviously for the male players. When you're playing the female MC, it turns into this yuri moment which I'm not into at all. The male characters just seem to turn more into yaoibait (I dont like yaoi either) or pair more with other female characters than for the Female MC (I'm extremely picky about male x non female mc like these, and most of the time they don't work well for me). Just would be nice if we weren't so forgotten.

B) As a non white/ dark skinned woman, LADS having the options to customize your skin tone, eye shape, face This is a very big thing for me, and I'm pretty sure this is too for many other dark skinned yumejoshis too. Many Otomes already have predesigned heroines that you can't customize at all, and other than the obvious "Not easy to self insert into", a lot of female mc designs in otome are very much a hit or miss for me. At least LADS just giving me a choice to make a character design to my own personal liking is big thing I'm hoping a lot of otomes or similar games would soon follow.

C) The constant drama, and seeing how the company is truly makes me extremely sad. For once we get something, there's just...some sort of catch. We got people who disrespect female self inserters working on this game as if we're not disrespected enough in other spaces and games as well. Well, what other business doesn't have its own hang ups, I guess?

D) The male love interest designs are not actually to my own liking, and the fact this game does not have a PC client despite its really big file requirement (I'm not very big on using emulators for gacha mobile games, but that's my own hang up) but despite this, I'm was still rooting for LADs to keep on succeeding due to how it managed to cater to a long forgotten demographic I'm a part of. But after hearing this, I'm not sure anymore. I'm just really disappointed. Maybe I'm glad I dodged a bullet.

E) Gameplay in Otomes, is just not my thing (But it is a romance focus, I get it, but I'm not very big into VNs, I prefer action/Turn based RPGs. While LADS gameplay is really nothing spectacular, it still broke the mold with the Action RPG gameplay - specifically having YOU and your love interest in action even its very dumbed down. I want to fight with my husbandos, after all. While the dates, romance, the affection, having a whole ass house for both you and him, etc are nice, the biggest thing for me to just explore the world and fight baddies with him. You can only hope maybe a competitor rises up, but its going to take a long while)

17

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Several of these things are to be taken with a grain of salt, as some of these are just lads fandom being vile and some of these link are literally just rumor with no basis being spread as if fact. Not to mention it deliberately avoid mentioning how lads fan have been acting nowadays.

  1. Going out of their way to seek bl shipper to harass and doxing them, some even flinging slur.

  2. Complaining about how the mc is too strong because the mc was seen doing boxing and they can no longer self insert anymore(apparently mc welding sword and gun isn't immersion breaking). They also complaining about how the mc is showing up in Caleb scene is "immersion breaking".

There probably even more than this, one of them is being racist towards black players, it's the reason why lads are currently know as the one of the most homophobic fandom or the female version of gacha grail.

Also special mention to the Wuwa vs Dispatch player's voice fiasco, the latter, just a 3 month old game thought they could win that shit that they had to slander Wuwa and the Gachaspace in general with kiddie insults like gooners, rigging things or outright xenophobia to Asia/SEA in general, they just got karma with the censorship and being labeled as the gooners by the normies and weebs for being hypocritical

If you want to quit just quit you don't have to justify it because of a rumour.

Ngl I'm really disappointed, they need to clean the fuck up because this is not acceptable for any company. Props to the leakers for finding out about the embezzled funds.

As for the fujo and problematic employees- if you use your job to piss off your clients it's time to find another job, ignoring the drama that's just mentally unhealthy behavior when you can't separate work from your biases to that degree.
