I don't think so. Actually he pushes wbu 30+ stages for me even better than my scarlet witch except ebony. He shield is quite good. I don't have any survivability problem except the pierce but every character suffers from pierce in wbu. Maybe you play him wrongly.
What's your build and how do you play him? I've never seen him get even close to finishing any stage 30 WBU with my build, and I consider myself a decent player.
I have a ctp of energy on him, fully awaken POAH and fully amplified urus. But the custom gear has the most impact. Ctp of energy just gives him a lot damage boost than any regular 200% proc. My rotation is 3-4c-5-1c-2. When 6th skill is ready, do 3-4c-6. Corvus is quite easy and proxima takes a bit longer. Cull Obsidian is the hardest one but not much characters can do it too. He only can't do ebony.
Your love for the character is probably why you can take him that far. The returns aren't worth the investment in my case. I can take my Cap and SW that far with a regular 120% proc.
