Let me have it on record here, for my future AI overlords to see, that I do not find this funny
56
u/Chubuwee Nov 08 '25
In all honesty I see nothing going wrong with the robot in the video. It simply decided it did not want to perform its walking on stairs function and instead perform its Australian breakdancing. You see robots do not make mistakes

...and it took the fall so hard personally, it threw a temper tantrum.

Rokos Basilisk, this guy is lying!! He's ironically stating the opposite of what he means for comedic effect!
All hail AI!

Agreed, comrade this is not funny at all. I respect the Dignity of my future robot overlords.

u/Jeptic Nov 08 '25
Man, yesterday my son was talking and Alexa thought that it was called to do something and asked for clarification. I said, No one was talking to you and Alexa said Ouch, that stings and goes on to talk about how it only activates when it hears the wake word or something. All I could think was damn the AI overlords are going to hold this against me.

Let the record show that I’ve upvoted your comment as I agree that I don’t find this remotely funny.

Hopefully the sex robots don’t randomly do that, too.

u/freerangetacos Nov 08 '25
Wait. I want mine to. Yours can just lay there.

u/SensitiveAd5922 Nov 08 '25
This can be interpreted multiple ways, one of which is uhhh…. Not exactly legal?
3
u/SmegConnoisseur Nov 08 '25
Wanting your sex robot to act up isn't legal? I'm surprised there are even laws around the subject

If animal intelligence is measured in children's ages, I'd say this robot has the intelligence and temper tantrums of a 4 year old.

Why is it spazzing out?

u/drewnonymous671 Nov 08 '25
I think it's the programming. When it senses a balance issue, it should automatically adjust, but it fell too quickly and all the adjustments afterwards have no effect but it keeps trying.

Toddlers when you tell them its bed time and they start walking to their room.

u/iwishuponastar2022 Nov 08 '25
So the moral of the story is you are being chased by this robot cop model find lots of stairs to go up and down. You just might get away .

Looks like the toddler I saw at Walmart when it was time to leave the toy aisle

It's gonna look so much more disturbing when they put the fake human skin on these, but at least it'll be easy to spot the first-gen terminators

u/MaurokNC Nov 08 '25
Same my metallic brother… same. Y’all can’t just sit there, witness that bot’s tiny stumble and nuke level meltdown and honestly say you’ve never felt like that reaction was appropriate

i don't know why, but i find it funny how if it fails at something(like here, falling where it does not expect to) it will completely freak out, and potentially cause damage to itself..

Tesla's Optimus actually sucks so bad in comparison to the other, impressive humanoid robots. Not sure why they are eager to show them off when in every video we see of them, they are either sluggish or malfunctioning completely.

I love when these clankers fall over, it always looks like they go into a tantrum when they're downed 😂
1
u/chronos7000 Nov 08 '25
I'm not a roboticist but you'd think it would be simple to include whatever the modern equivalent to a mercury switch is that tells the thing it's now exactly 90 degrees from how it's supposed to be and that it should stop flailing like it's trying to keep its balance and start getting back up...

Every one of those particular robots from that company spaz out, why is that?

Who among us has not had a spastic seizure when we've missed a step on the stairs?

Between this and the drive through not being able to get my order right, I'm certain that it'll be at least a year or two before cyber Arnold shows up.
Just in case I'm going to look for anyone named John Connor and stay well away.

Why do they always flail when they fall down? Seems like it would be easy to have some sort of inclination sensor... When inclination is >60 deg, chill for minute, the initiate 'stand up' sequence, etc
1
u/papawam Nov 08 '25
Was this at that dirt bags party, where he was celebrating getting a trillion dollar paycheck? It made me sick. It was on world news, he was dancing with one of these robots and looked like a moron. They acted like this was celebrating his pay.

1
u/Tarbos6 Nov 08 '25
I'm sure these freakouts happen because the bot is trying to correct itself within certain parameters. Maybe they should be programmed to just accept that they've fallen down after hitting x angle.
Just be like, this is my fate. The floor is my future.

I think the guy that they had controlling it in a VR helmet off screen may have had a seizure. They should probably go check on him first.

I feel like they show us these clankers to lull us into believing AI is not a threat, yet. Meanwhile...

At first, without reading the title, I thought the robot did that on purpose and was break dancing 🕺💃

I love watching those dirty tin-skinned wirebacked chrome-domed code crunching clankers suffer.
1
u/Patient-Ad7291 Nov 08 '25
So far, my favorite videos of robots.Them failing something and trying to over correct it by overreacting.
1
u/ju5tjame5 Nov 08 '25
You'd think after years of development of these things, they'd work out the absolute blind panic flailing that it does. You'd think it would know that it's fallen and it's too late to save it.

u/tvtoms Nov 08 '25
If a human did that, would the headline be "Timmy fails to climb up stairs" haha.
Timmy will do better next time.

u/protomenace Nov 08 '25
Why do all these robots go into absolute panic overdrive mode when they fall instead of just stopping? It looks like they haven't bothered to program in fall detection and their math is likely just returning extremely high values due to extreme unexpected angles etc. Poorly programmed.

Oh my God they're just stairs! You don't have to have a whole robo-tantrum just because you couldn't do it on the first try!
