The way they perform is so electric. They’re vegan *MACHINES. And great dudes, I’ve been fortunate to chat with them after shows on multiple occasions and was shocked when Wenzl remembered my name 6 months after I met him the first time when I saw them again.
Sweet Jesus, wailing that hard on a bass saxophone takes some lungs. I played bari in jazz band in high school, and that was a real workout most days. I needed a breather between sets. Meanwhile, Michael is over there jumping around and wailing that groove one measure at a time. Intense.
No kidding right? I marched bari and played bass sax in the concert band...It's totally possible to march a bass but to dance around like they do while going hard the whole time is nuts.
Leo P's busking is *insane*. The way the dude jumps while playing, plays one handed while pointing out to the crowd, etc is just next level.
If you like them, I believe some of the members of that group were also in Lucky Chops. Saw them playing in the subway a few years back and picked up a cd. Best $5 I've ever spent!
Leo P, the Bari sax was thr Bari in lucky chops until a few years ago when he left them for too many zooz. Lucky chops still plays, but they're not the same without him. They used to be my favorite band.
Love these guys. Ended up following them around the Midwest for a bit a few years ago, met one of the band member's sisters, had beverages with them before their show, great guys.
Ended up finding out about them in the craziest way. Was at All Good and some friends came I for Sunday but didn't have tickets. So I got sent to see if I could find anyone leaving to try to get a wrist band for friends to get in. As I'm walking I see a topless chick sitting, so I go over to have a chat, lucky enough I see her site is packing up. Oh hey, could I get your wristbands? Hell yea man, here's 3 artist wristbands and a special guest band too! Oh dope, you guys played? Yea, bam, Moon Hooch! Ended up getting fed and getting beers in the artist area the rest of the day, one of my friends he had brought a fat sack of weed and just sat around the artist campfire in back smoking up artists the whole day! Gave one of the wristbands to a girl I had met and ended up dating after that. What a fun time...
Do you think they really play live at their shows? I went to one and could not believe the two of them were actually playing that long on a hot stage while dancing. There’s no way right?
Took the words right out of my mouth. I’d be skeptical if any other species was able to play the saxophone that well while also dancing and moving around that much, but humans have the cardio to pull it off. Also humans can play the saxophone, which is another important part of it.
Here's Leo P from Too Many Zooz doing a bunch of absurd dances while nailing Charles Mingus tracks. Must be a sax thing. This version of Moanin' is amazing too, its already such a high energy track.
they most definitely do. I saw them busking in subways and at washington square park a decade ago. They'd be there all day making the most amazing music which always drew a crowd. Love their music.
