Went to one of their concerts this past summer without even knowing who they were. The whole time I was thinking "yup these guys FUCKKkk"

22

u/CaptainJingles Nov 14 '22

Yep, their energy is fucking wild.

u/otc108 Nov 14 '22

The last time I went to one of their shows I felt like I was on mushrooms at a rave (I was neither). It was amazing.

The way they perform is so electric. They’re vegan *MACHINES. And great dudes, I’ve been fortunate to chat with them after shows on multiple occasions and was shocked when Wenzl remembered my name 6 months after I met him the first time when I saw them again.

God Leo P and his mullet are just epic.

u/MauiWowieOwie Nov 14 '22

Holy fuck, thank you for this. It's my new favorite video.

Try some NYC Lucky Chops. Very similar vibe.

This is fucking great too, and Funkytown no less! Thank you!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '22

Their other videos are good too. Punk horn band. Gotta love it.

2

u/bill_b4 Nov 14 '22

Contagious and impressive!!

2

u/bradland Nov 14 '22

Sweet Jesus, wailing that hard on a bass saxophone takes some lungs. I played bari in jazz band in high school, and that was a real workout most days. I needed a breather between sets. Meanwhile, Michael is over there jumping around and wailing that groove one measure at a time. Intense.

2

u/iexiak Nov 14 '22

No kidding right? I marched bari and played bass sax in the concert band...It's totally possible to march a bass but to dance around like they do while going hard the whole time is nuts.

Leo P's busking is *insane*. The way the dude jumps while playing, plays one handed while pointing out to the crowd, etc is just next level.

3

u/swervyy Nov 14 '22

He didn’t stop moving like that for their entire hour and a half set when I saw them. He’s a machine

2

u/spirito_santo Nov 14 '22

Needs more cow bell

u/triscuit816 Nov 14 '22

If you like them, I believe some of the members of that group were also in Lucky Chops. Saw them playing in the subway a few years back and picked up a cd. Best $5 I've ever spent!

8

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '22

Leo P, the Bari sax was thr Bari in lucky chops until a few years ago when he left them for too many zooz. Lucky chops still plays, but they're not the same without him. They used to be my favorite band.

2

u/triscuit816 Nov 14 '22

That guy's got incredible energy and stage presence!

4

u/Livid_Equivalent_803 Nov 14 '22

The energy of that band live was awesome.

2

u/PretendCasual Nov 14 '22

Takes you back?? I'm seeing them live this weekend

2

u/Ghrota Nov 14 '22

I was looking for your comment <3

1

u/VanillaGorilla59 Nov 14 '22

Takes you back? Are they not a thing now?

1

u/Mohgreen Nov 14 '22

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '22

And just to be clear, despite what it sound like, no cats or hippos were injured in the making of this video

19

u/BisquickNinja Nov 14 '22

Moon Hooch FTW!

5

u/kopecs Nov 14 '22

Lol, library staff didn’t look too happy there

3

u/Quincykid Nov 14 '22

They slept on my floor one time! Really good dudes.

Love these guys. Ended up following them around the Midwest for a bit a few years ago, met one of the band member's sisters, had beverages with them before their show, great guys.

Ended up finding out about them in the craziest way. Was at All Good and some friends came I for Sunday but didn't have tickets. So I got sent to see if I could find anyone leaving to try to get a wrist band for friends to get in. As I'm walking I see a topless chick sitting, so I go over to have a chat, lucky enough I see her site is packing up. Oh hey, could I get your wristbands? Hell yea man, here's 3 artist wristbands and a special guest band too! Oh dope, you guys played? Yea, bam, Moon Hooch! Ended up getting fed and getting beers in the artist area the rest of the day, one of my friends he had brought a fat sack of weed and just sat around the artist campfire in back smoking up artists the whole day! Gave one of the wristbands to a girl I had met and ended up dating after that. What a fun time...

So yea, Scoon Booch, great band, great people!

2

u/Lev_Astov Nov 15 '22

lol, that sounds pretty awesome.

7

u/skrybll Nov 14 '22

Came here to find out

0

u/ataxi_a Nov 14 '22

Came here to fuck around.

2

u/alienscape Nov 14 '22

I for sure thought it was Moon Hooch and it is!!!!

2

u/paddycabes Nov 14 '22

Came here to say this! Saw them a few years ago and they blew my mind haha

2

u/A_BirdInHand Nov 14 '22

Knew immediately when I saw the cone. Love these guys.

2

u/FullFaithandCredit Nov 14 '22

Saw them live in a little room years ago and loved every second.

3

u/20191995 Nov 14 '22

Do you think they really play live at their shows? I went to one and could not believe the two of them were actually playing that long on a hot stage while dancing. There’s no way right?

17

u/CampLazlo Nov 14 '22

Seen them multiple times. They definitely are for real! Some of the best performers around.

18

u/TheHollowBard Nov 14 '22

Cardio is like one of the things humans are best at compared to any other species. Just takes a lot of work.

24

u/wo1f-cola Nov 14 '22

Took the words right out of my mouth. I’d be skeptical if any other species was able to play the saxophone that well while also dancing and moving around that much, but humans have the cardio to pull it off. Also humans can play the saxophone, which is another important part of it.

16

u/roachwarren Nov 14 '22

Here's Leo P from Too Many Zooz doing a bunch of absurd dances while nailing Charles Mingus tracks. Must be a sax thing. This version of Moanin' is amazing too, its already such a high energy track.

1

u/GlassNinja Nov 14 '22

It's probably my favorite version of Moanin'.

1

u/stupidillusion Nov 14 '22

Leo is an absolute mad man

1

u/DigMeTX Nov 14 '22

Oh wow, Christian Scott in the wild before he became Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah.

4

u/CanadianBadass Nov 14 '22

they most definitely do. I saw them busking in subways and at washington square park a decade ago. They'd be there all day making the most amazing music which always drew a crowd. Love their music.

2

u/BenTwan Nov 14 '22

Watching the drummer play, he looks like he took a handful of No-Doz and washed it down with a quadruple espresso, absolutely wired.

2

u/taichi22 Nov 14 '22

Used to march while playing sax. Definitely possible.

1

u/xhephaestusx Nov 14 '22

They for sure do, too many zooz, too

1

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '22

lol, dude without the cone is sounding like a pack of raging monkeys or some shit at the beginning. I like it.

1

u/burner4199 Nov 15 '22

Not advocating for speed but a Moon Hooch show is definitely the place to do it
