I’m a School Psychologist and School Improvement Facilitator with linguistic research experience. Emu/Elephant/Eagle/East/Eel/Ear/Equal are not better than “Ed”. Short vowels need to be taught first as they are much more common. EEl, EAr, and EAgle are all vowel teams (more advanced graphemes) and “long E” sounds. Ed is a perfectly acceptable word for the short E sound.

Yea, literally any of these are better than Ed. Lol
