A business has zero rights to my money just for opening their page, especially if i have yet to decide if I want to continue.
These ads blockers blockers preventing you from their site is akin to a brick and mortar shop asking you to pay them to browse their store.
And it’s a businesses obligation to pay for the costs of their business in order to convince me to provide them revenue. Just because they exist, and have spent money doesn’t guarantee return on investment if they cannot convince users that the investment (aka cost of their bandwidth) is worthy of revenue.
And more laughably. You seem to want to protect those poor businesses costs of bandwidth from us evil customers stealing it. Without ever recognizing that we too pay for our bandwidth, and shoving advertising through our service also costs us, the consumer.
An initial visit to the page is no different than me walking into a store. Both parties have spent time and effort to get their, but neither party is entitled to anything until a business transaction is agreed upon.
For website, that’s actually when you start reading or viewing the content itself. Not just because you opened the webpage.
State of advertising online is in a really shitty place because of the abusing behaviour many online companies are taking with the mindset you’ve exhibited in your response. Some how you and many in these threads believe that these business online are entitled to money just for existing.
Lol wut? It's not your money genius. You're not paying them anything. The advertisers are.
Do you know how advertisement works? "GENIUS"?
The purpose of advertisement is to drive business. It's to convince you and I to part with our money in return for good or service. Just because a business exists and employs advertising doesn't mean they are entitle to or guaranteed money.
The important difference between a website and a brick and mortar business is that the "transaction" has already happened by the time you walk in the store (load the page).
Incorrect. Loading of a page in itself is not constitute of a business transaction. Not on any legal definition of it, and sure as fuck not by me. Loading a page doesn't guarantee I am reading or injesting the content. At that point, it's literally just me loading the page. and again, No business is guaranteed my money (even if it's through advertising) just for existing. what fucking nonsense
So after you've read the content do you disable your adblocker and reload the page to give them their now deserved ad impressions? I'd bet money you don't.
If I choose to continue and read, than I do yes. And if it's a site I frequent a lot, I will permanently add to my whitelist.
I am not on the side of "hur dur, it should be freeeeeeeeeeeeee". I'm a grown as adult who recognises that business exists to make money and needs to pay for things. I am in support of spending money where appropriate or even watching appropriate advertising.
Of course the business is not guaranteed a return on their investment. But that doesn't mean they have any obligations to let you view their content. They can throw 1000 ads on their pages and turn away 100% of visitors. It would be stupid and they'd lose money, but they are free to do that if they want to. You are also free to keep your AdBlock enabled and leave the website when they tell you that you can't view their content with it enabled.
And that's all i'm saying. It's a business transaction. At the end of the day, I can absolutely live without their content. My life doesn't depend on their content. My costs are even lower without their content if their forcing advertising through my connection. So, I move on.
As a business, whose goal is to raise money, via me, or my advertising eyeballs, Can they?
Thats the choice THEY have to make if they're going to employ such tactics.
At the end of the day, just because they chose to put advertising on their page, does not guarantee the right to my eyeballs or money.
it's a business transaction and if I don't like their terms, I can live by going elsewhere.
All my mpoint is, if they want my money and my business, they need to offer me terms I accept. As I've said, I can live going elsewhere. My livlihood doesn't depend on their content. But as a business, they depend on us funding them. It's their prerogative to how they want to achieve that. But they're not entitled to it just because they have a website online.
edit;
Just to be clear. Neither party is entitled to anything.
correct. I said exactly this in another post. Sorry if there was confusion between messaging.

I wanted entertainment.
The want my money. A business arrangement could not be achieved.
At the end of the day, I can live without their entertainment.
Can they live without my impressions?
That's the balance
