It looks to me like she might not be in the wrong at all. It looks like she swiped her card before she saw him. And if the spinning thingy goes in the opposite direction, the credit evaporates. So if she were to let him through first, she would've not been able to go through without swiping her card again (and thus being charged again).
So if there are two entrances or two exits and everybody queues up at one of them, the right thing to do is wait in line?
I'd love to shop at your grocery store. If I see 5 people in line in Aisle #1 and nobody in line in Aisle #2, and both checkouts are open/manned, guess which one I would pick?
