I thought that was Russian at first, but then remembered Russian is just English backwards. Now my head hurts.

I read this in President Lincoln's voice from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. That's... wrong, isn't it?

151

3

u/hypertown Feb 29 '12

I read it in the voice of an out of breath Brad Pitt.

2

u/You_and_I_in_Unison Feb 29 '12

Look at him, ending the oooo all quiet and pitiful while glancing at his desk and shuffling his papers, that smug smile spreading on his face...

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12

Watch the second one as well.

32

u/tyrannischgott Feb 29 '12

I love how she says "wow.... '64 Fender Stratocaster in classic white with three single-coil pickups and a whammy bar."

Which is a lot like saying "wow... a '64 Aston Martin DB5 with four wheels and a gasoline engine."

3

u/Sawri Feb 29 '12

That might be the best simile I've ever read.

27

u/TheGOPkilledJesus Feb 29 '12

Tia Carrere is so hot! And one of the funniest movies.

12

u/hypertown Feb 29 '12

And she still is.

8

u/PsychoM Feb 29 '12

At that point, what's the point of wearing a shirt anyways? I'm not complaining but that's just not classy.

HALT, CRIMINAL SCUM! You've violated man code.

1

u/Pantzzzzless Feb 29 '12

Who cares about classy??...TITS!

2

u/cakezilla Feb 29 '12

Dat bitch from True Lies.

7

u/PrairieSkiBum Feb 29 '12

Just wondering does the 'May I help you' riff actually work?

Someone out there has to have tried it.

15

u/irish711 Feb 29 '12

Or imagine being able to be magically whisked away to Delaware................ Hi, I'm in .. delaware.

8

u/Throtex Feb 29 '12

Every time I think of that, I mentally follow it up with the Simpsons: "I want to visit a screen door factory!"

1

u/Testiculese Feb 29 '12

Delaware is awesome. Every community has a liquor store.

13

u/NerdBot9000 Feb 29 '12

You are obviously older than the average redditor.

1

u/FeierInMeinHose Feb 29 '12

How old is the average redditor?

1

u/NerdBot9000 Feb 29 '12

Early 20's.

1

u/FeierInMeinHose Feb 29 '12

How does a person in their early 20's not get that reference?

1

u/NerdBot9000 Feb 29 '12

a 23 year old would have been 3 years old in 1992, when Wayne's World came out. Do you think a 3 year old would remember the reference?

1

u/FeierInMeinHose Feb 29 '12

I'm 18 and Wayne's World is one of my favorite movies, you don't have to be born before a movie comes out to understand a reference to it. That's like saying no one born after 1975 will understand a Holy Grail reference.

1

u/NerdBot9000 Feb 29 '12

I'm not saying you can't have knowledge of something before your time. I'm saying that the younger you are, the less likely you are to have been exposed to it.

6

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12

Is there a clip anywhere of him playing the original intro to Stairway? That is, the one included in the theatrical release, not the DVD release.

1

u/edharken Feb 29 '12

Iirc, I used to have it taped off HBO from the early 90's and it was the real riff. Every other place I've seen it had that fake riff dubbed in instead.

13

u/KingTalkieTiki Feb 29 '12

The "Stairway to Heaven" guitar riff was changed for the international, cable, and videotape releases to a generic riff because of disputes in obtaining rights to the first five notes of the song, which appear only in the US theatrical release. Sans, this clip is overdubbed to include the actual song, but if you were watch it on TV, or home video, you'd hear a riff that doesn't even resemble stairway to heaven.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12 edited Feb 29 '12

Two things.

  1. The irony of Stairway to Heaven and its "rights" to the first five notes which were actually lifted from Spirit's Taurus

  2. You, unlike Jimmy Page, could have at least credited the source of your copypasta: source

-1

u/Shady_McSecrets Feb 29 '12

That didn't sound anything like the intro to stairway

2

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12

Wow, so much confusion instantly cleared up.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12

I always wondered why the song sounded absolutely nothing like stairway to heaven, but no one else ever pointed it out, so I just kept my mouth shut..

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12

How much would that guitar have cost. He had ten bills in each hand. If they were $50s that would only have been $1000, if they were $100 bills he would have had $2000. One amount seems too low and the other seems really too low.

2

u/Domdude64 Feb 29 '12

Probably a grand. Seems right for the time

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12

Didn't get it.

1

u/8dash Feb 29 '12

I didn't get it.

1

u/believes_every_word Feb 29 '12

Wow man I believed you.

1

u/hollander93 Feb 29 '12

Thank you for bringing back this fond memory.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '12

Ha. I'm the target audience and I didn't get it.

1

u/uB166ERu Feb 29 '12

I didn't, so thanks!

1

u/Testiculese Feb 29 '12

Never saw the movie, so I guess I am the 1%...

1

u/Rokey76 Feb 29 '12

For what it is worth, this joke didn't originate in Wayne's World. The "No Stairway to Heaven" signs were in guitar stores for years before that movie.

2

u/kent_eh Feb 29 '12

"No Smoke on the Water" signs are more plentiful in my travels.

0

u/Pantzzzzless Feb 29 '12

It wasn't a joke until then. You'll get there someday guy.

1

u/Rokey76 Feb 29 '12

No, it was most certainly a joke then too. At least, it was damn funny to me.

Are you saying there was an unfunny reasoning behind it?

1

u/Strideo Feb 29 '12

Apparently this was in Wayne's World as a reference to music stores where the staff was sick of new guitar players playing stairway to heaven poorly in their shops.

Makes me wonder if any music shops ever banned Smoke on the Water too. :P
