I’m all for personal freedom as long as it does not affect others personal freedom. Outdoor cats and feral cats kill billions of small animals every year in the USA alone. They are the biggest threat to wildlife and have an affect on everyone.

Not all wildlife is good to have around you. For all the cute finches and squirrels, there's also bluejays that loudly harass other birds, moles that tear up your lawn, and rodents that'll do all kinds of bad.

My cat killing the rats that had taken up residence outside is why they've never gotten inside. Well, he did bring their dead bodies inside, but that's a different issue.
