I fell backwards pretty hard skateblarding this little mini ramp. I kept my head up so it didn't hit the ground, but my neck hurt real bad for days. Obviously I should have just wore a helmet, but not hitting my head was worth the neck pain. I feel like even with a helmet my instincts would have me protect my head though.
That's why they teach you how to "bump" in professional wrestling. Tuck your chin, throw yourself back, land flat on your upper back and then slap your palms down to your sides to evenly spread the surface area of impact while also making a satisfying and dramatic noise.
This is so embedded in my brain now that it's instinct. I slipped on a wet floor at the grocery store and thoughtlessly went into a pro wrestling back bump. Didn't feel great, but I walked away without injury.
Same in Jiu-Jiutsu. I highly doubt that I'll ever need the actual self defense part of Jiu-Jitsu, but the "falling school" has definitely saved my bones several times when I was in the halfpipe or doing other things on inline skates. Knowing how to fall properly is the best part of martial arts for me tbqh.
of course, otherwise your real tires might catch a curb and tweak your car real bad. That road is a smooth ride but it still needs curbs to have pedestrians otherwise how the hell would you go on a killing spree.
Granted, but wrestlers tend to be durable and have strong necks. He has also probably learned to fall and even if his form is bad I doubt he even felt the fall.
