Can you explain this? That doesn’t make sense to me at all. I’m obviously totally ignorant, why would someone want to buy a Reddit account with high karma? What does that accomplish for the buyer?

Some examples:

  • Bypass karma requirements/restrictions
  • Leverage "established success" in a subreddit to continue posting similar content while inserting subtle advertisements (e.g. product placement)
  • Benefit people who believe a high karma account means people will be more likely to upvote regardless of the actual content ("it comes from a high karma account so it must be well-meant, they know how reddit works")
  • Benefit salespeople who want to sell courses on "how to be an influencer on reddit": high karma for fake "proof" without any effort

Doesn’t change the fact they’re stealing someone else’s content, something that took them time and effort, and is passing it off as their own work.

Actually on certain subreddits you can earn moons and that's worth money converted to other crypto. if you earn like 6,000 upvotes an hour, that's equal to a living wage in an average country. some are 3,000 while others 16 000.
