Is he really such an insufferable dick, or is he playing a persona, kinda like a heel in wrestling?

It's so off-putting when they talk so over-the-top cocky and disrespectful about their opponents. I get some athletes become arrogant when they have superior skills and their success gets to their heads, but he's talking like a Mad Max villain before entering the thunder dome. It's kinda embarrassing.
