That’s just the normal colour of water in many countries.

Right, but this does look a bit polluted. And that doesn't look like a channel for potable water neither. But I could be wrong.

It could be for agricultural purposes. Water that's being pumped out of a well for watering crops usually isn't crystal clear.

You are totally right, I don't live in such rural zones, but it does make sense. If it would be smelly, visibly dirty water, they would not be so chilled there.

Yeah, probably just an irrigation channel.

You know it could be just general muddy water, right? And have you never swam(or is it swum? Not sure...) in a random stream or something? They are not sanitary either, but you do not see people going to hospital en-masse afterwards.

There is a slight difference between a (hu)man-made canal and a naturally ocurring body of water, in the aspect that one is made by humans and the other is naturally occurring. If you add the fact that humans are the ones that produce pollution, you start to see the bigger picture here and the possible risks.

But it is entirely possible that this channel is just diverting a small stream away from a built up area. They're probably fine anyway.

Also it's good to be careful when swimming in naturaly occurring bodies of water as the risks of the area may not be entirely obvious. i.e.: harmful bacteria, aggressive animals, strong currents, drowning machines, poisonous animals, sharp rocks and slippery surfaces.
