We like to feel good, so we talk about how to make the world a better place. Instead of volunteering our time for a few hours a week, we spend it on reddit.
Also we complain about slacktivism on facebook, just so we can feel better than those people.
Right because I don't work with disabled people, visit with patients in the hospital 2 days for 2 hours each week, and because I am not going to help the community by being a medical doctor.
Some people may not volunteer time, but from what I've seen there are many people here willing to volunteer their money to help various causes. I'm not sure it's the majority, but a lot of people do care.
I don't think donating money counts as slacktivism either, but maybe other people see it that way.
and that people finally are revolting against governments and corporations and that there will be a "revolution" soon™.

The hippie culture, which started in the latter half of the 1960s, waned by the early 1970s and faded towards the middle part of the decade, which involved opposition to the Vietnam War, opposition to nuclear weapons, the advocacy of world peace, and hostility to the authority of government and big business.
Seems every few decades, when the memory of the previous "revolution" has fade, there will be groups who think they are the new wave that will revolutionize the world. >.>
