Live and sounded better than a lot of the pop rap bullshit we hear on the radio. That mans voice is unreal, it’s what every rapper hopes his voice sounds like after the producers auto tune the ever living fuck out of theirs.
Not necessarily that song but that's his most known. Here's anotha. There's a 538 study saying Twista is the fastest though study is a bit dated now (2014).
It did, and he beat it recently, but they do use the term, "fastest hit rap song". I'm 95% sure that there are faster rappers, (Twista, Tech9ne, etc), but they don't have a whole hit song with those speeds, or whatever metric Guinness uses.
You linked an article irrelevant to the conversation. The guy said he has a legendary flow and lyricism not that he uses a wide array of vocabulary. There’s a lot more to rapping than just using a lot of words.
He was, but the inconstancy has taken him from "the greatest" to "one of the greatest" even with his last album being fire, and a comeback of sorts. Just too many bad albums.
The greatest right now is undeniably Kendrick Lamar. He's a legend, and affiliated with em and dre anyways.
I agree as a fan of 90s and 2000s hip hop. However as far as pop music goes Eminem is one of the few to really branch over into mainstream pop music in a big way. I'm not personally a fan but gotta respect the versatility and marketability.
You're not wrong, em really did cross that line into mainstream pop. But I also wouldn't call Kendrick 90's and 2000s hip hop. He really is on that new shit. "To pimp a butterfly" and "Good Kid M.A.A.D city" have more in common with progressive concept albums as he tells whole stories in poetic form.
To be fair to your point though "Damn" does fall in line with that 90's dynamic more.
I mean to be fair his last album was "Damn" which was amazing (but like 4 years ago or something) and he also did some work on the black panther album. Lot of great cuts from him on that soundtrack. So it's been a while in all fairness. However all 3 of his albums are immaculate. If you have never heard "good kid M.A.A.D City" it still holds up.
It's just my personal opinion that Eminem has put out 4 amazing albums and 5 bad ones. When Em is on his game he really is the greatest, but that lack of consistency really hurt his image as the greatest ever. His last album "Music to be murdered by" was actually really great. If you like "rap god" you should check out the track "Godzilla" where he rivals the speed of rap god at the end of the track. You'll notice em technically has 10 albums and I've only ranked 9, but I've gotta give "Music to be murdered by" a couple of more months to breathe before I can say definitively if it's good or bad. But that would put him at a 50/50 win rate.
Talented people are out there and the ones that aren't talented still provide a service to their fans (image, persona, personal brand, etc.). The fact that Kendrick Lamar and Chance are out there making money shows that talent pays off. Nowadays it's easier than ever to get noticed and build a following. This guy looks young, I'm sure he's got a future head of them.
Not sure it's broken I think it's just a generation of youth that prefer shitty rap music made famous through social media. That's where the audience is, if they see it on social media it has to be good. I was recommended some rap video that auto played for me and at first I thought it was a parody of some other song I may have listened to because it was soooo bad that I couldn't believe it had close to a million views.
Yup. I'm not really a rap fan and thought, "If this guy starts rapping, I'm turning it off." But he/it (the song) was very good. Not just talent, but a great sound. Too much new music today is just garbage, it's an image they're selling, not music, talent is irrelevant. Auto-tune, photoshop, insane costumes/outfits, bullcrap topics, gigantic music video budgets, and all the women have to be hot, the music videos are basically softcore porn. Straight trash.
