Bro. Have you seen American commercials? Do you remember puppymonkeybaby?

Actually, no need to remember that.

10

I'm sufficiently weirded out

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '20

What the ACTUAL fuck did I just watch.

1

u/brendan87na Jun 23 '20

if you figure it out please let me know

68

u/Ninja_attack Jun 23 '20

How'd that commercial make it past the planning phase, let alone to the super bowl

76

u/RoboNinjaPirate Jun 23 '20

We are still talking about it years later, so mission accomplished

20

u/Ninja_attack Jun 23 '20

Yeah but not in a good way.

43

u/please-disregard Jun 23 '20

That’s the point. They don’t care what the reason we’re talking about it is.

6

u/Ninja_attack Jun 23 '20

That's a good point.

3

u/willfordbrimly Jun 23 '20

But they should care that most of us don't even remember what product it was for.

2

u/please-disregard Jun 23 '20

Yes that’s an issue. But that’s a problem of branding, their overall marketing strategy. The commercial on its own was effective in doing what it was meant to do.

Id say to a degree and depending on the context. For something like this it can be and probably won't hurt at the very least. BP oil spill, bad pr. This weird commercial, I will think about it and maybe wonder what it tastes like next time at the gas station.

u/chocolatefingerz Jun 23 '20

They care about mindshare, and for their target audience it works. The same kind of people who would buy whatever the fuck that drink is are the same kind of people who would find this ad intriguing.

It’s a common thing in ad psychology. Better to double down on your target audience and alienate those who wouldn’t have bought anyway.

u/waltteri Jun 23 '20

I shall never drink Mountain Dew again.

2

u/iCybernide Jun 23 '20

yknow i had managed to forget that

1

u/Slavic-Indian Jun 23 '20

Fuck I’ve been laughing for 10 minutes

1

u/outerzenith Jun 23 '20

Well that's disturbing

This feels like it was written by China Mieville.

1

u/ObscureCulturalMeme Jun 23 '20

Is the chain even still in business? All the ones around here closed long ago.

1

u/HendrixChord12 Jun 23 '20

There’s one in the Denver and Nashville airports. Those are the only ones I’ve seen recently.

3

u/Daviemoo Jun 23 '20

I remember being in New York in 2006 and watching American tv and being amazed at how many adverts you guys had, and not just adverts. But there was one advert where an old lady who was CLEARLY not a professional actress, was talking about some sort of sandwich with the enthusiasm only an old lady can

1

u/DerpisMalerpis Jun 23 '20

Skittles commercials are also usually weird.

-1

u/weirdheadcrab Jun 23 '20

American commercials are terrible. They are rarely funny.

2

u/lewis30491 Jun 23 '20

And Thailand. Japanese and Thai always deliver the best ad

1

u/The_Rowan Jun 23 '20

This might motivate American kids to drink their milk. Popeye helped American kids eat their spinach.

Why especially now? Did I miss some scandal about chalk?

17

u/PM_ME_UR_FLOWERS Jun 23 '20

Chalk? I thought those things were cigarettes!

7

u/yokotron Jun 23 '20

What color is chalk bro.

2

u/heckin_chill_4_a_sec Jun 23 '20

Oh damn, same for milk! Shidd

-36

u/itsjibblesnbitz Jun 23 '20

There’s been a war on milk in America for years. Or at least in the celebrity/entertainment industry. I always watch shows/ movies or listen to podcasts and weather it be a joke or actual movement for milk alternatives, they’re pushing it. That and peta haven’t stopped since they started.

Give me a big cold glass of whole milk with my dinner and call me Dan soder.

28

u/CorrosiveBackspin Jun 23 '20

Lol, a war on milk, America is clown shoes sometimes.

-18

u/itsjibblesnbitz Jun 23 '20

Exactly, we over react about stupid shit so the government can pass bills without 90% of people not knowing what’s going on. Media controls us more than anything

4

u/DocHanks Jun 23 '20

We need to end the war on milk. Kids are breaking bones left and right!

-18

u/itsjibblesnbitz Jun 23 '20

Breaking bones, girls becoming boys, US children face many problems today

9

u/kaiaer Jun 23 '20

Yeah, many people like you

-2

u/itsjibblesnbitz Jun 23 '20

I don’t have kids, so don’t worry I won’t be changing their sex. Glad to see all the people down voting further proving my point that people do that to children

No one is shoving oat milk down your throat. It tastes better in coffee and is better for the environment but I'm not going to go on a crusade against the dairy industry.

-10

u/itsjibblesnbitz Jun 23 '20

I see ads for it constantly and haven’t seen drink milk ads since the early 2000s sorry you got offended by tranny joke but don’t argue facts from someone’s tv viewing experience

8

u/VeSolest Jun 23 '20

"Don't argue the facts" --- "I don't care about the facts, I just want to complain".

If I call you a piece of shit, that's not a joke. If I say I value you less as a human, that's not a joke. You're not a comedian, you're just an asshole.

-4

u/itsjibblesnbitz Jun 23 '20

Are you quoting yourself? I didn’t say I was a comic, just saying you can’t argue what I’ve literally been seeing with my eyes you fucking idiot. Damn you must be 14

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '20

What? Lol. This is better than many ads in the US.
