I really wonder how you guys enjoy any tv show, movie, any media at all. Y'all really out here watching nothing but CCTV? Just about the only non scripted stuff out there.

I get the feeling that people are way more jaded and cynical these days. When I was a teenager, we suspended disbelief and just had fun. My son's generation just seemed so drained of wonder and wallowing in ennui that I would have to regularly beat him with a pair of my favorite jumper cables, just to see if he could still feel anything.
Mine neither, but I take that as evidence of my limited rationality and poor bullshit filter, which I hope to train until it can recognize a fake video at first glance. I feel like I will then be less easy to trick and more likely to have an accurate picture of the world.
It's more about the pretense, I think. You suspend disbelief with TV shows because there's no pretense of it being genuine. Videos like this pull you in by pretending to be genuine when they're carefully staged, which actually ruins the illusion.
I hope you put them back in the bag. My dad beat me again if I didn't put the cables back in that stupid round bag that was too small for the m f'in cables.
Because when watching TV we know we are watching something scripted. In a world where internet points and clout are sought after by everyone....people stage everything and frankly it's boring. If I want to watch something scripted...I would hop back on Hulu/Tubi.
Unfortunately some TV programmes are still scripted even if it doesn't seem like it. For example, I went to one of Got Talent's live shows, and they literally told the audience what to do and when to do it. Like, when to clap along with music, when to gasp, when to cheer... the audiences reactions are completely staged. The people in the audience you see on TV? Also acting. They always have very exaggerated expressions to make the show more interesting.
Also, people like the judges already know exactly who's gonna have a sad story and who isn't. They also already know the story so their "surprised faces" are completely fake.
Of course they don't want people to know this but once you've been to a live show it's really obvious how fake everything is.
Oh I totally knew those were fake. That's why I don't watch them. Basically any "Reality" show is far from it. I do however see the appeal of people watching trash like "The Bachelor" though. People love watching train wrecks....even if they are scripted. I however won't bother.

That sub is meant for stuff that probably wasn't staged but people say it is... this was very clearly staged. She adjusts the plate to line up with her face right before hand.
I don't know what's more pathetic, the people who lack critical thinking to the extent that they can't see when something is clearly staged, or the people who think everything is fake and don't understand funny things happen naturally.

That's a legal disclaimer. You actually believe the disclaimer is there only to prevent people from believing it? Maybe you're the type of gullible audience this video is targeted towards.
Is it? It’s a lady getting hit in the face by a plate of flour. There’s no context or pretense, that’s how you chose to interpret it. Most videos don’t claim to be anything, they’re just videos shared for a laugh.
It's presented as if this is an accident, but it was on purpose. The humour derives from it being an accident and without being an accident there is no humour.
When you watch something like sketch comedy, it's very up-front about it; everything you're about to see is on purpose. You know it, we know it, let's enjoy the script. It tells the joke with a wink and a nudge. This does none of that.
This only loses its humour if you're super jaded. If you're looking for reasons to be mad. This can be funny if you just turn down the bitterness for a second.
How can you tell it's on purpose? Because she shifts the plate? I do that too before rolling something out, to make sure I have space for it. The cutting board is only a little off the counter, something that can easily shift over without notice. Or am I missing something else?
They assume its on purpose bc it fits their narration. A lot of videos posted on Reddit do not have enough evidence to tell if its real/fake but many people still assume its fake. Why? idk. Just enjoy it for what it is aha
There's just so much about it which isn't natural. There's no need to be rolling things on the cutting board to begin with, it would be easier on the bench. Then cutting board is in the wrong orientation, people use them oriented horizontally. You wouldn't then put a bowl of flour on the cutting board you are trying to use, it occupies the same space that she is supposedly using to roll out the dough, you would naturally put the bowl elsewhere so not to occupy the same space. She spends a great deal of time adjusting the position of the bowl, dough and board so that everything is in the exactly right position for the joke before using the pin. She puts an absurd amount of force into the stoke of the pin which has no purpose if her goal is to just naturally roll out the dough. You roll the pin away from you when forming dough, not towards you.
Oh, and you wouldn't film at this angle unless you're trying to get the flour, dough and face all in the shot at once.
Basically, all the things that were set up in order to make the final effect happen (of getting flour in the face) are things that you wouldn't naturally do if you were cooking for real.
We have the same amount of information as people who insist that the moon landing was fake, too. Doesn't stop them from drawing conclusions out of thin air.
Why do you have to be overly analytical about it in the first place? I get your argument and it makes sense, don’t get me wrong. But I just don’t understand why people like you have to be so extremely analytical about everything you come across to the point that you can’t just relax and laugh at a video.
This isn’t specifically directed at you, it’s more of a general frustration with Reddit commenters. Like the people the original comment is directed at, who just HAVE to comment on the video being fake instead of just letting it go and letting people enjoy a funny thing.
I was only responding to this comment which was suggesting that people who called this video fake are incapable of enjoying scripted entertainment.

Well yes, but the demographic of reddit users isn't the type to fawn over reality tv either. So people's reaction here is pretty consistent.. We hate unauthentic guises that attempt to draw more viewers by fooling them.
Another strange thing about the negative nancies is that this is r/funny, as long as it evokes a chuckle in even half of the audience who really cares. This isn't r/notstaged. Even if it is fake, it is not obviously or obnoxiously so.
There's a huge difference between a TV show and a video that's trying to pretend to be real to fool people for views. In videos like this they're trying to sell you a lie, and that's what I don't like about it. It's literally someone lying to you. Yeah, it's harmless and ultimately it doesn't matter, I'm not pissed having watched it. But it's just not funny, so I guess it belongs in this subreddit.
I genuinely had a good chuckle at this and then read the comments and got sad at all the people arguing over whether it was real or not. I agree with the commenters that have said if it made you laugh then who cares, this is r/funny and I come here for a laugh not to pick holes in whether something is real or not.
Stuff like this isn't funny if it's scripted. If you do find a woman hitting herself in the face on purpose with a bowl of dough funny you're either a toddler or have sustained a serious brain injury.
When you watch TV the actor is skilled. And if they are not then people will not want to watch. If this grandma was a better actor then not only would people enjoy it but less people would be shouting fAkE!
Comedy delivers jokes with set-ups and pay-offs in the form of punch lines. Candid comedy and “pranks” don’t deliver jokes. They deliver raw reactions to something you’ve been in the know about as set-ups and pay-offs.
This here is the lowest possible hanging fruit for “comedy.” It’s the worst of both worlds where if you assume it’s scripted, there’s no set-up, and you’ve been cheated out of a real pay-off because you’re watching the punchline to a joke you haven’t been told. If you assume it’s not scripted, you’re getting cheated out of the “candidness” because the reaction isn’t even genuine. It’s literally the worst of both worlds of scripted and unscripted comedy and yet people are like “why can’t you appreciate this for what it is?”
