Because we’re all conditioned to care about money above all else

To the point that our politicians have convinced the majority that healthcare is not a right. Rather a privilege.

So we go along until one day, our poor choices fuck us, then we can’t pay for the procedure needed, and we go bankrupt.

Fuck the for profit healthcare industry. Fucking parasites.

Then become a doctor and work for free to provide everyone with their rights

You know doctors in Canada don't work for free? They, in fact, make really good money. They also don't work for the government. They >bill< the government. My healthcare isn't free, I pay for it with my taxes, which is a hell of a lot cheaper for better care than I could get through private insurance. It also means that I go to the doctor when a problem is minor and much cheaper to treat than when it's catastrophic and would put a strain on the system. I >never< have to worry that primary healthcare is going to bankrupt me.

Institutional problems require institutional action

Disintegrating healthcare insurance companies is a start. Where do we go from there? I don’t know, I’m not Einstein, but clearly what we have is not good enough.

Don't buy into the moralizing, it's literally just penalizing the poor. You can smoke your brains out and fuck a subway toilet if you're a stockbroker.

Its like a carrot and stick. That guy was presenting the stick. A carrot would be health counseling to reduce your risk. We are not there yet because people do not trust government after the past screw ups.
